Flight/Racing Motion VR Simulator @ Noisebridge[edit | edit source]
sergeyvklimov — 2019-10-10
Hi y’all! We are building Flight/Racing Motion VR Simulator at Noisebridge!
Project is currently on the stage of collecting equipment in the corner of Noisebridge. Donate equipment/pledge some labor.
I built a pretty sweet Flight VR Simulator at my home (no motion) that lets me have joy of flying every night, so I figured - why not build one for public use so everyone could have this joy/learn piloting aircraft? Besides, I got some quite nice hardware left overs after multiple upgrades. If interested in helping in any way you can (donations of equipment/materials/labor/technical expertise) - write to GitHub repo issues or contact me directly in any way convenient to you

```
- Flight/racing motion VR simulator @ Noisebridge
Purpose of this project is to build available to public free of charge high end flight/racing simulator: for giving anyone taste and basic flight (racing) education.
Joy of flight (and racing) is prohibitively expensive for the common people: one hour of piloting of any real aircraft starts with $150. To gain knowledge and skills needed to be able to pilot plane, one have to shell out thousands upon thousands of dollars.
Equipment that allows to simulate flight (and racing) realistically enough to teach people basics exists and available for puchase, yet cost of it is prohibitively expensive for the common people too: total budget for functional flight simulator might start at $500, but might end in $20k (depending on features/quality of equipment). Labor needed to put it together is significant, and space in a living room of working class SF person living with roommates is non existent.
Flight and racing shall not be a joy for rich people only. Any human is meant to rich the stars and pilot the finest machines humanity ever created; help us share a dream.
End result gonna be functionally like that
There is a ton of available 8020 in the metal shop, also I will check that bag as it showed up the same day the rest of the 8020 was donated, so it might have just be put in the wrong spot.
