Switching all Forum authentication to an external source, such as the Wiki[edit | edit source]

Continuing the discussion from Keeping this Forum Updated:

Discourse now supports replacing existing default authentication entirely with SSO from an external site. This means we could potentially funnel all forum membership through noisebridge wiki accounts or mailing list accounts.

Caveat: countless spammers join our wiki everyday, so enabling this as-is means those spammers would now be joining our forum automatically as well. Keep in mind the forum does work off trust levels, so we can shape what information, categories, and general access new users have.

This is a longtime community request, so certainly worth spreading awareness.

Your feedback is greatly appreciated!
