Hello, my real name is Aaron and I like using the moniker SFGiantsAce36 because I am an SFGiants fan and usually wear a Giants baseball cap when at Noisebridge.

== General Interests ==
Linux SysAdmin with raw Debian GNU/Linux and #! Linux
Desktop-PC hardware "hacking" and trying new electronic tchotchkees(==gizmos)
Programming (Python, bash scripting,...etc.)

== Past History ==
Frequented Noisebridge up through the end of the Summer of 2013, and just returned to visit now after a 1month+ hiatus, predominantly for learning & practicing new stuff.
I've visited Noisebridge on Mondays-Fridays off-and-on for ~1.5 years now, including the relatively offpeak hours between 10am-6pm on these days.

== Present ==
As I write this, am currently involved with 1a) Bash-scripting 1b) Carefully testing ATAx hdd's and optical drives 2) Figuring out how to install, use and dual-boot Slackware 14.1 and Arch on a few PCs (too low HW for VMs though, darn dat!) 3) Toying around and optimizing my Raspberry Pi which has Raspbian currently installed on it...... too bad that Noisebridge doesn't seem to have a working and available in-house LCD monitor that I could use with the RPi :-\

== Future ==
Besides bash-scripting and more Linux stuff, would also consider attending an upcoming Intro to Perl class, depending on interest and schedule of instructor/attendees.

Our Linux & FreeBSDiscussion meets every Wednesday from 6 PM to 8 PM in the Turing classroom. [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alan_Turing Alan Turing]] It is an informal meeting sponsored by the San Francisco Linux User's Group [http://www.sf-lug.org SF-LUG.ORG] and is wide open to any ideas relating to using the various [http://www.gnu.org GNU]-and-other-process/[http://www.kernel.org Linux]-based and [ftp://ftp.netbsd.org/pub/NetBSD/NetBSD-current/src/share/misc/bsd-family-tree BSD]-based operating systems]. We are not limited to, but do enthusiastically encourage:

* Sharing the latest software releases
* Installations
* Helping new users and converts
* Hardware investigation
* Configuration
* Troubleshooting
* Reviving old computers and making them better with Linux, *BSD and other Open-Source Software

We started meeting weekly in mid-October, 2009 and have had a group develop who steadily attend.

For other regular San Francisco Linux events see [http://www.sf-lug.org/ sf-lug.org] (twice per month), [http://www.balug.org/ balug.org] (monthly) and [http://opensource.sfsu.edu/ OLPC-SF] (monthly).

See [http://linuxmafia.com/bale/ Bay Area Linux Events (BALE)] for events around the San Francisco bay area.

Members of the [https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Home Ubuntu team] (for [https://wiki.ubuntu.com/CaliforniaTeam California]), [https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Ambassadors Fedora Ambassadors], and [http://partimus.org/ Partimus volunteers] have been known to frequent this discussion group in the past.

Attendees run a variety of [http://distrowatch.com/dwres.php?resource=popularity distributions]:
* [http://wiki.debian.org/DebianSqueeze Debian Squeeze] and [http://wiki.debian.org/DebianWheezy Debian Wheezy]
* [http://www.debian.org Debian]-derived (including [http://crunchbang.org/ CrunchBang Linux], [http://www.linuxmint.com/ Linux Mint] & of course [http://www.ubuntu.com Ubuntu])
* [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berkeley_Software_Distribution BSD]-derived (including [http://www.freebsd.org/ FreeBSD], [http://www.openbsd.org/ OpenBSD], & [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darwin_(operating_system) Darwin]/MacOSX+)
* [http://www.opensuse.org/en/ openSUSE]
* [https://www.archlinux.org/ Arch]
* [https://tails.boum.org/ The Amnesic Incognito Live System (TAILS)]
* [http://www.knopper.net/knoppix/index-en.html Knoppix]
* [http://www.slitaz.org/ SliTaz]
* Multi-booting with Mac and Windows or running Virtual Machines

'''Bringing your computer is strongly encouraged!'''

Believe it or not, Linux events also happen outside the city borders. For the adventuresome, two good lists of such far away events are available from visiting websites [http://linuxmafia.com/bale/ linuxmafia.com] and [https://wiki.ubuntu.com/CaliforniaTeam/Projects/UserGroupContacts/Groups#SF wiki.ubuntu.com].

This handy [http://web.archive.org/web/20100407081537/http://www.athensmusician.net/archive/2005-02-13_oragamicdholder.php folding method to protect CDs] has come in handy for some of us.
