== MEETING NOTES ==
We had about 15 people at the meeting. (I don't think anybody counted
or took pictures.) The food was a success (although there was about 1.5
entrees too much food). Several people were attending their first
Noisebridge meeting.

The discussion focused on two major areas:
* project ideas and inspirations from other hacker spaces and events
* plans and ideas about 40 Ringold

We spent about 45 minutes (in several chunks) talking over people's
ideas, plans, aspirations, and inspirations. The following ended up in
my notes; unfortunately, I don't have attributions for most of them.

One interesting phrase that was new to me is "Hacker Embassy". I think this nicely sums up one aspect of what we hope Noisebridge can be -- a public face for hackers to the greater community, and also a focal point for the Bay Area hacker community to interact with other hacker communities around the world.

Bill Pollock gave a status update on the building. He has hired an
architect. They are in the planning phase; there seems to be a fair
amount of flux around what work is going to be done in the near future.
As I understand it, Bill's priority is to get any structural work done
ASAP so that No Starch can move in without the disruption of ongoing
structural work in the building.

Structural work may include
* foundation work, any needed seismic improvements, water mitigation (sounds like this may be less of an issue than previously thought)
* expanding the upstairs to the full building footprint (or nearly)

Nonstructural construction may include
* improving the patio / rear staircase
pretty much a lock, I suspect); practicality, price, and timeframe all
need to be evaluated.
Bill expressed some concern over the idea of having a significant amount
of "stuff" in the upstairs space, given that there is a good chance of
significant disruptive construction in the not-too-distant future. (For
example, an electronics workbench in the room where a skylight is being
installed is going to get covered in construction dust; furniture such
as couches or bookshelves would need to be moved in order for new
flooring to be installed, and so on.) The primary concern as I
understand it is that "stuff" will impede progress on construction; it
might be possible to mitigate this concern if Noisebridge members commit
to moving "stuff" as necessary (between rooms, to downstairs, garage
storage, etc) on short notice.

The timeframe for this work, of course, depends on what work is being
done, and there are external dependencies (on contractors, permits,
materials delivery, weather, etc). It seems safe to say that if
structural work is decided upon, it won't be completed in less than
three months.

After some discussion the meeting broke up early and mostly adjourned to

hi, i'm ryan bagueros. i do a lot of things:
* i'm co-founder of [http://www.sfccp.net/ san francisco community colo], a non-profit colocation facility that provides at-cost server colocation to other non-profits, community groups and free software projects. while we are for the most part fiscally solvent through our model, we DO need financial help as well as network equipment donations. we also need volunteer sysadmins who can help eat away at our open ticket list.
* i'm co-founder of [http://www.linefeed.org/ linefeed-dot-org], a non-profit developers network that provides technology support for modern, 21st-century socialist projects like those already happening throughout the americas. if you are interested in offering your programming, sysadmin, web design or project management skills ''pro bono'' to projects like this, get in touch. we mostly work in latin america, united states and the middle east.
* i've worked with [http://tech.indymedia.org/ indymedia] for going on 8 years now. we are currently working on a breath-taking redesign of the global network (the technology part) which you can find more information about at [http://sf.indymedia.org/ san francisco indymedia].
* i'm excited to be a part of [http://www.techmeet.org/ techmeet], a new annual summit of socialist/anarchist technology volunteers and collectives. this began in sao paulo, brazil in july 2006. in 2007, techmeet was "distributed" -- we held events in cities across the world and used video teleconferencing to hold our meetings. in 2008, techmeet will again hold a face-to-face meeting, either in buenos aires or bogota.
* i'm owner/founder of [http://www.northxsouth.com/ northxsouth], a for-profit free software business active in san francisco, california and sao paulo, brazil. we work within the latin american free software movement and also we offshore stateside programming/sysadmin jobs to america latina.
* i'm owner/founder of [http://www.northxsouth.com/ northxsouth], a for-profit free software business active in san francisco, california and sao paulo, brazil. we work within the latin american free software movement and also we offshore stateside to america latina.
* my computing preferences include mutt and freebsd.
* i can read and write spanish and portuguese pretty well and i am actively studying both languages. i studied french for 7 years but i think that all i can claim is i read/write okay and i speak broken quebecois. i don't actively keep up on french. i've also studied arabic and in general i'm interested in languages and linguistics.

all that stuff takes a lot of time and money. all of the above are seeking well-to-do angels who can ease our financial burdens. we're also seeking reliable volunteers who can actually get stuff done.

my interest in the noise bridge project is that i'm looking to make friends by helping build something cool that's right in my neighborhood (i live a block away from the space).

hi, i'm ryan bagueros. i do a lot of things:
* i'm co-founder of [http://www.sfccp.net/ san francisco community colo], a non-profit colocation facility that provides at-cost server colocation to other non-profits, community groups and free software projects. while we are for the most part fiscally solvent through our model, we DO need financial help as well as network equipment donations. we also need volunteer sysadmins who can help eat away at our open ticket list.
* i'm co-founder of [http://www.linefeed.org/ linefeed-dot-org], a non-profit developers network that provides technology support for 21st century socialist projects. if you are interested in offering your programming, sysadmin, web design or project management skills ''pro bono'' to projects like this, get in touch. we mostly work in latin america, united states and the middle east.
