Typically when someone wants to do or change something big at Noisebridge, they bring it up at a meeting and it goes through our Consensus Process. Most of the time many of us just don't want to be troubled with spending a week figuring out if everyone is ok with a small or mundane thing, and so there's Do-ocracy. Do-ocracy tends to work just as long as our only rule is followed, to be excellent to each other.

Do-ocracy: If you want something done, do it, but remember to be excellent to each other when doing so.

An important part of being excellent is documenting your change. Write a note on Noisebridge's ChangeLog, or leave a note on what you do-ocratically did. Contact numbers are especially important if you want people to contact you about the change. The biggest challenge in a do-acracy is not reversal, but ascertaining (and taking) responsibility.

Use Cases
The Short Version
# Dick asks around if anyone would feel negative about the bike shed being pink. No one does.
# Dick paints the bike shed pink.

The Being Excellent To Each Other Version
# Dick paints the bike shed pink.
# Jane becomes unhappy about the fact that the bike shed she helped build is now pink.
# Jane politely engages Dick in discussion about why he thought this was ok. Dick realized that other people he shares the space with have feelings too.
# Jane and Dick decide to repaint the bike shed blue.

Notes
* Do-ocracy works most of the time. When it doesn't, it sort of sucks.
* Write a note (with your name or nym) saying what you did.
* If someone nicely asks you to change something back, be nice back and just change it back.
* If someone's being a dick to you about something you've changed, be nice and just change it back. If you must cry about it only do so after you've restored things.
* When Do-Ocracy means Consent.

If you have an RFID token, and a Noisebridge Member trusts you, the member can add your RFID to our access control system and you can get 30-day access to noisebridge without having to use the doorbell.

After 30 days, any member or philanthropist can renew your token!

To see how long you've got left, just scan it upstairs at door and see what the display says.

Members and Philanthropists also have RFID access to noisebridge, but theirs never expires, and works 24/7.

Also, if you don't have an RFID (like a clipper card), Noisebridge has RFID tokens!

They're small and blue keyfobs. We bought a big bag of them for $MONEY, so if you want one you should pony up $5 and do your part to keep Noisebridge kickin'.

More about Earl, the Access Control System
There are four access levels within the system:

* Daytime Access - You can enter the space without restriction between 10:00 and 22:00, but cannot register new tokens
* Power User - You've got some extended hours from 7:00 to 11:00, but still cannot register new tokens
* Philanthropist - You have 24 hour access to the space
* Member - 24 hour access, and you can register new tokens

Having a token is a sign of responsibility at Noisebridge. All who have tokens are allowed to bring other people into the space, and can also buzz others up by scanning their token.

You are responsible for who you bring into the space! If you don't know someone, don't let them in unless you're 100% willing and able to give them a tour of noisebridge. Make sure that you tell them:

If you have an RFID token, and a Noisebridge Member trusts you, the member can add your RFID to our access control system and you can get 30-day access to noisebridge without having to use the doorbell.

After 30 days, any member or philanthropist can renew your token!
To see how long you've got left, just scan it upstairs at door and see what the display says.
Also, if you don't have an RFID (like a clipper card), Noisebridge has RFID tokens!
They're small and blue keyfobs. We bought a big bag of them for $MONEY, so if you want one you should pony up $5 and do your part to keep Noisebridge kickin'.

Overview
Hooray! We're so glad you want to visit!

Noisebridge is located on the 3rd floor of 2169 Mission in the center of San Francisco's Mission District. Our door can be a little hidden, we're next to Mi Ranchito Produce Market. See the picture --->

Ring the Noisebridge doorbell and wait a few minutes, someone will probably buzz you in. If no one answers, you can ring again after a bit but please be patient - someone has to get up from hacking to answer the door.

There is a staircase and an accessible elevator. Try to take the stairs if you can.
If taking the stairs, go all the way to the top and ring the doorbell there again.

The elevator can be a little persnickety but it has a bell that rings up into the space for assistance if needed. Read more about Accessibility.

Read up on Getting Here.

----

Noisebridge is a space that has been designed since its inception to be open to pretty much all hackers. We especially welcome those who like to tinker and hack on things, and those who are generally nice.

Read here for more Visitor advice on our culture and some suggestions on how to interface with it. Our collectivist Do-ocracy -style anarchy is often strange to people who are accustomed to more authoritarian structures, and many new visitors are initially confused on how things work or who they should talk to about things. If it's your first time here, ask the person who let you in, or other friendly looking people for a tour! This can be a great way to jump into the Noisebridge culture and learn more about how we work.

Noisebridge is most fun if you bring a project or project idea to work on.

How Do I Get Into 2169 Mission?
If you've never been to the space before, press the Doorbell and wait. There is generally someone available to answer the door when Noisebridge is open.

Good times to catch us our in the evenings during the week, and 11am-10pm on weekends. Other times we may be open but it's not peak hours.

Some people who are regulars get an RFID Token, they can enter without using the doorbell.

Some of the RFID tokens give you 24/7 access, whereas entrance via doorbell generally only works during our open hours (roughly 11am-10pm).
