Five Minutes of Fame (5MoF) is ten five minute talks in an hour, with a short intermission so you can get another beer.
Talks tend to be ad-hoc, poorly-planned, and awe-inspiring.

How do I sign up to give a talk?
Sign up to speak by following the link above, clicking "edit", and adding yourself to the list.

When and Where?
5MoF happens at Noisebridge, 2169 Mission St, San Francisco every Thursday at 8pm when there's interest, and definitely every third Thursday of the month.
thex - will be at noisebridge saturday and sunday. will be driving there for saturday and sunday and have 3ish open seats.

mitch - there's a few sections of the meeting that we go through and people can talk about them in their own words. people who have been here can pass along what they feel about noisebridge.

what does it mean for noisebridge to be safe space.
Trent - victoria says that (and I agree) noisebridge being a safe space means the same thing in a physical sense as it does in the nonphysical. if you're going to start a really loud tool you should let people know to put on headphones. if you're going to talk about something sensistive, allow people to to avoid it.
mitch - no one is in control. we're all empowered to make noisebridge a safe place.

how do people participate in noisebridge?
? - show up!
mitch - that's a good start. hard to participate if you're not here. we also have email, wiki, and irc, but noisebridge is firstly a physical space of people doing the hard work of building a community that's worth being part of. how do you get here? you ring the door bell and you get a tour. you learn about what's physically in the space but also how it works, how it doesn't work, etc. if you like it you can be here as long as you follow our one rule. also, you can turn an rfid thing into a key. you get access from 11am to 10pm. it expires but can be renewed. if you want more responsibility you can become what we call a philanthropist. you can work it out to have 24h access. if you want more responsibility you can be come a member which we'll tlak about soon.
trent - doocracy is about what doing what you want with the stuff you're working on, but also with noisebridge. if it's a non-revertible change, it's good to talk about things, though. but if it sounds good you should go for it. but if it sounds like a really big meal we can bring it up at a meeting and it can maybe be a consensus item.

[box of strawberries gets passed around]

mitch - a brief introduction of philanthropist. it doesn't mean you're a rich person giving a lot of money to noiserbridge. (but rich people are welcome to!) . for us it means someone who takes responsibility for the space, helping people who belong and showing people who don't belong the door. collectively noisebridge has its own point of view defined by our own view of what excellence is. we're all empowered to talk about excellence and help us get better. if someone wants to take more responsibility they can be a philanthropist. you're responsible for closing the space if you're the last person. if you want to be a philanthropist get a member to vouch for you and if no one objects in a meeting you become a philanthropist.

no new philanthropist applications for this week! there are some last week but we got confused.

thex - is there a way to nonmonetarily contribute for 24h access?
mitch - we haven't worked it out explicitly but there's no reason that can't happen. we're an anarchist organization!
trent - talk to john shutt. so yes! it has happened. and can happen again.
thex - there shouldn't be a 1-1 correspondence between access to noisebridge and money.

who belongs at noisebridge? it's also subjective. you belong at noisebridge if you contribute to (not only financially) and benefit from the community. it's up to all of us to use our judgment. mainly we want to be positive. "be excellent to each other" vs "don't be evil".

membership!
somewhat similar to philanthropist except membership in a california nonprofit has legal rights associated with it. members also get two things: 24h access, full participation in consensus process. if things get really out of hand in a discussion, they can block a consensus item. heavy responsibility and we want to make sure everyone who's a member can understand and work through. you fill out a form and get two people to vouch for you.

financial report!

john shutt is our treasurer. he gave a written financial report in slack:
"for the meeting tonight: We have $84797.08 in the bank. Est. $30K of that is for Noisetor. $7,356.39 for the equipment fund. Several hundred for laser maintenance."
about $47k for general fund, which is like 8mo of operating expenses. so we're doing ok! but we need 2mil more if we want a building.

consensus! that's how we make our decisions. who wants to talk about that?
sofie - it's a very swedish thing. everything should be decided on with consensus. it doesn't always work that way but it tries to. at meetings we all have to agree or agree that we're not agreeing

mitch - with formal consensus, we have a meeting and the soonest we can move forward is the meeting after it. we don't normally use it, but we would use it for e.g. moving, building walls, etc. it's up to each person to decide if we want to do things doocratically bc the formal consensus process is a big deal. quite often we do things with small-c consensus. people discuss things and work it out and it just happens.it works better than democracy bc we want to avoid the situation where half the people are alienated. only members can technically block, bc in a healthy discussion things don't get out of hand. (but any member can block membership).

trent - we have 2 consensus items! electronically.

https://noisebridge.net/wiki/Current_Consensus_Items
"
2017.05.15User:robbinttPhilanthropist status no longer expires when a monthly donation is not madeNoisebridge philanthropist status no longer expires if a monthly donation is no longer made. Instead, the philanthropist goes into hiatus where they neither pay dues nor have any properties of the Philanthropist role. Philanthropist status can be revoked as normal even while on hiatus.User:robbintt"

trent - automatic, vs membership hiatus. reduces burden.
? - how does that actually work? something in the payment ssystem?
trent - hopefully it doesn't matter too much.
mitch - btw, if at any time any member feels that a philanthropist isn't being excellent, status can be taken away.
trent - if someone is being unexcellent we can ask them to leave regardless of status.
jonas - does it solve an actual problem?
trent - it created a situation where it was applied to someone in a way that wasn't fair in the past. just recently someone didn't pay for a while and we gave them 24h access. it creates an unfairness. we should treat everyone the same.
mitch - since this is something in the manual, it's probably good to have consensus to change it rather than doocratically change the wiki.

we'll talk more next week!

"2017.05.15User:robbinttDefine Propagation of Access TokensActive Members and Philanthropists may have 24-hour access to Noisebridge through the RFID access control system. 30-day daytime access to the space through the RFID access control system can be activated by Members. 30-day daytime access to the space through the RFID access control system can be renewed by members and philanthropists.User:robbintt"

trent - currently consensed as being at the whim of the creators of the system. but we have a way that we've been doing it for a long time. this states that, but also gives philanthropists the ability to renew tokens. that way we have way more people around who can renew tokens. it doesn't have to be a consensus item, but thinks it would be good. so it creates the framework that we're using now through the consensus process but tacks on the other thing.

mitch - just some context :if someone has been coming around a bit, we th
lizzie - has noticed cool people not being able to renew.
mitch - btw, you don't need to be a member at noisebridge.

trent - so yeah. we don't need this to be a consensus item, but I think it would be cool.
thex - more access-type-stuff: we used to have a pincode system that was a tree. so anyone with a code could create a code. but it was nifty because it was a tree, and you could kill whole trees.
mitch - yeah that was a constantly-evolving system. we had dark days in 2014. noisebridge was being used as a terrible homeless shelter. we solved the problem by what we called the reboot. we kicked everyone out, took everything apart, sanded floors. "making noisebridge great again". unlike the reference there actually was a time when noisebridge was great. it worked really really well. since then there are a lot of things we've come up with to keep things moving forward. the tokens the x was talking about was one attempt but thinks that applying
sofie - how does it work maintainance-wise? sounds like a lot of work.
mitch - there are people that take ownership. people self-organize to make things happen. one person built it (henner) who mostly built it.
lizzie - does it solve a problem?
mitch - being able to hand out keys by anyone have keys seems cool.
lizzie + mitch - we'll think about it more.
trent - there's a network of people who share access who maybe shouldn't be.

trent - so that's the rest of the consensus item.
? - question about consensus: not all members are here, so how does that work?
trent - some people may not ever hear about it. we have enough people engaged right now who have ideas and that people who would block such a thing would do it. it's not dependent on people who hear about it.
mitch - doesn't have to be 100% of members that exist. a lot of people don't have strong opinions, just trust and respect people with opinions. this is kind of nitty-gritty procedural stuff that a lot of people don't care a whole lot
lizzie - a lot of people read the meeting notes.
thex - that's why it takes 2 weeks. so people can pass around the word.
trent - there's no hurry. also might indicate that you're trying to pull a thing over on someone.
jonas - they should all wear hats.
trent - probably there will be a lot more discussion next week.
[many hats are put on]

thex - edits to consensus to history. any consensus for director electrions last year. wonder if that got lost in the notes or what.
mitch - we had an election last year. there should be a record of those.
thex - there was consensus in 2015 but it just stopped. so it became procedural.
mitch - we're required by law to have 5 board members and 3 officers. we're required by law to have them. those positions have responsibility but no power. all those people are people who want to take responsibility and liability.
jonas - similar to thing in sweden.
mitch - one of the attempts to fix problems in 2014. two board members out of 5 decided they were a majority. 2 weeks later they were gone. so something about noisebridge worked? maybe?

discussion items:
+ thex - housekeeping items. seem to be missing a current elevator permit.
lizzie - talked to patrick about it, it's maybe being taken care of.
jonas - elevator is a landlord's problem.
+ mitch -there's this guy who's been emailing us named Sean. works for some nonprofit that makes agreements with restaurants in town. they have a day where if a nonprofit signs up with them, some percentage of the restaurant's profits go to noisebridge. it sounds cool but it takes a person to organize it.
jonas - sales tactic for the restaurant?
mitch - but could also be mutually beneficial.
thex - what's the best way to follow up?
mitch - emails with secretary@. also lady red thinks she may have a friend.
thex - speaking of lady red, there's an interestng venue called monument in soma. if people are looking for another thing to do wednesday at monument they have a create night. "monument social club".
mitch - people live there! totally legal? very hospitable.
+ thex - thursday night. do we have any libation funds?
mitch - if you or other people want to make it happen, you can maybe be reimbursed
+ thex - wants a slackbot for infobanana so people can interact with slack.
slack is not noisebridge. a lot of people invovled in noisebridge talk on slack. it would be cool to bend the conversation a bit.
mitch - slack is for people in the space. if you know a person and are in the space, you can request an invite.
+ thex - let's imagine there's a hacker ambulance parked somewhere in the bay area that was parked in the bay area that could be revived. thinking about creating a fundraising project.
mitch - we don't have a fiscal sponsorship program but we all seem to want it. mitch thinks it's cool.
thex - has talked to john a little bit. apparently we have the ability to accept funds and earmark them for specific projects.
mitch - on donate.noisebridge.net, anyone can donate to a specific project. if you put the word out, money can come in.
+ ? - what kind of projects?
mitch - "we want to buy a frobnitz generator"
thex - original project was journalism.
mitch - thanks for being part of 364th meeting!
thex - used to be here a lot. moved to east bay. sudo room, now in omni commons. now has been hanging out here, hosting 5mof
lizzie - electronics, security, non-alienating human interactions

announcements

thex - thursday, 5mof, makerfaire soiree with live entertainment, music, tours. please let people know! check out 5mof.com and event calendar. maybe one spot left!
what's 5mof? 5 minutes of fame, noisebridge lightning talks. talk about anything. slides or no, spitball, make stuff up, interpretive dance? experimenting with 360 degree livestream if we can obfuscate audience. longstanding tradition with recent revivial.
ryan - come to makerfaire! friday and runs through the weekend.
mitch - busy week - a bunch of stuff. tomorrow is dorkbot at nimmylabs (sp?) in soma. thursday there's 5mof and also monthly hackaday event ("hardware developers didactic galactic"). one of the dorkbot speakers is early noisebridger. saturday after makerfaire there's a hackaday meetup at o'neil's irish pub. sunday there's an osh park bring-a-hack.
thex - will be at noisebridge saturday and sunday. will be driving there for saturday and sunday and have 3ish open seats.

mitch - there's a few sections of the meeting that we go through and people can talk about them in their own words. people who have been here can pass along what they feel about noisebridge.

what does it mean for noisebridge to be safe space.

+ ? - what kind of projects?
mitch - "we want to buy a frobnitz generator"
thex - original project was journalism.
mitch - thanks for being part of 364th meeting!
thex - thanks for mitch and lizzie!

thex - also be excellent to each and party on.
lxpk - a member can unphilantropize them. also what's a member? like a
philantropist but 4 weeks, two sponsors, consensus.

trent - normal noisebridge rules apply to everyone. does anyone
object to gareth? nope! trent will introduce gareth to being a
philantropist.

thex - what's the status of the board, treasurer, etc? can we confirm
that we have all our obligations?

jarrod - brings up a good point that we used to have an officers
page. dunno if that has been updated. but we shouldn't require people
to be on slack.

ryan - but we shouldn't require people to use the wiki too. especially kids.

trent - operational security is important too. so we've taken steps to
reduce amount of public info.

thex - single point of contact.

augur - there's a wiki list but prob not accurate.

cowlicks - board doesn't do anything. they've taken an oath not to do
anything. there for legal purposes. but some legal liability.

trent - united states law requires us to have a board.

thex - secretary and treasurer are important.
** cowlicks meetings

cowlicks - does anyone have any ideas or problems with what we do at
meetings? does anyone think our meetings are perfect? (no) does anyone have
suggestions? (yes)

main objections: doesn't like when people pitch things to
noisebridge. been to a couple that are very pitchy with a captive
audience. we need a way for people to find others interested but tone
it down a little bit.

darryl - people who want to pitch things should be at 5mof. ryan -
that would be great. cowlicks - if they want to pitch things they can
go to a meetup.

cowlicks - second thing: at meetings when contentious topics come up,
some people are inclined to discuss them outside of the the
meeting. think we should take the chance at the meeting to discuss
problems or drama. not necessarily bringing things to the meeting but
open discussion about how we handled things. feels like at meetings
hard things are avoided to not scare people. it

responses:
+ jarrod - all the stuff you suggested falls under the moderator's
discussion. moderator can decide. moderator could stop a pitch or
suggest saving it for another person. moderator is never required to
follow list on page. moderator should always push for how they want
meetings to run.
+ cowlicks - definitely true but this discussion is part of it.
+ thex - worthwhile time to enhance moderating notes. good to have
an open discussion.
+ lizzie - meetings are very structured, kind of boring frankly.
+ lxpk - some parts of the meeting get rushed for time reasons. more
than controversy-fearing. we can streamline certain
things. section called the manual. made a poster to pay attention
to it. a manual could be printed. the idea of the meeting is not
to require computers to participate. a printout could be
useful. we could put things there encouraging people to read and
have access to. suggestion: printed manual is actual embodiment
without having to go into whole long things.

+
+ luke - facilitating vs moderating. unconference facilitation model
called fishbowl e.g. two people in middle, third person can come and
kick someone out. so it's a good way to have discussions.
+ george - when you guys have meetings, you guys do talk about?
+ lxpk - we have topics.
+ ryan - twice in a row we've had unmeetings.
+ cowlicks - no hard action item. but we should speak up at meetings
about how it's being run. we should ask questions. likes idea of a
handout. suggestions: safe space, membership and philantropy are
things we should talk about.
+ lxpk - definitions can be written in full detail, even with
dissenting versions, we should have that. during the meeting we can
discuss how we think it's evolving. e.g. "how are we feeling about
having a safe space".
+ jarrod: would like to see more scaffolding on the safe space
discussion. the safe space discussion doesn't have any scaffolding
on the wiki, ideally we'll get an organic discussion. and that's
missing on the meeting
+ lxpk - the discussion page and the wiki format are designed to help
evolve content like this. we don't want to set things in stone. we
could work on things with the normal wiki process even though it can
be frustrating. e.g. editing wikipedia can be a bad experience but
noisebridge can be better.
+ thex - typed "safe space" into wiki, got a weird page referring to
the 86 page.
+ lxpk - let's fix this right now.
meet thex and lxpk after the meeting.
+ thex - has been the principal editor of the noisebridge homepage and
discussion page. has pretty much beaten back the tits and
stories. made an effort to organize things weekly.
+ lxpk - what's the page?
+ jarrod - noisebridge.net discussion page.
** thex

anyone interested in running 5mof? otherwise let's focus on the next
week, third thursday, day before maker faire.

? - what is 5mof? thex - monthlyish sometimes weekly historical third
thursday talk for 5 minutes. typically ten talks. next thursday will
be day before maker faire. one talk for ordibooth, one talk for
simbridge, hopefully some other people. hit up 5mof on the wiki. thex
is taking point, may have a conflict, can't 100% confirm whole
5mof. but will definitely be here after lizzie - can maybe mc if thex
needs it. thex - slightly larger - volunteer to make sure it goes on
announce and meetup.
jarrod - j usually does it.
lizzie
thex - can jarrod be able to moderate announce?
jarrod - needs to ask #rack.
cowlicks and lizzie - thanks for making it happen.

thex - music and drink

geoge - do we livestream it?
thex - we could but don't. sometimes we record it.
george - we should do it sometime. maybe vr.

** trent has an announcmenet

trent looks around shiftily.

thursday 8pm - the library wg will be meeting. will be working on a django
and react app for the library. don't come if you know what you're
doing, but if you want to learn come. react and django rest. so probably

** jarrod annoucnement

stupid shit hackathon is this weekend. it's probably one of the
biggest events we have for the last two years. we use every chair and
seat and every working space. 150 people here all trying to find a
place for their laptops and burritos and workshops. please be
prepared + also come. coming in early saturday for cleanup. same day
as godwaffle. then after that stupid shit starts. removing things from
circumstances. if you want to come to help clean, come at 8-12 and
meet jarrod. but also come and work on projects. really cool
event. took us by surprise. now we have a welder and laser cutter.

ryan - lots of people won't be trained.
augur - one person will be here to train.
thex - who is the point?
jarrod - noah swartz
thex - also toool is coming on sunday.
jarrod - good luck.
thex - if no one has any objections he'll take the back space around church for vr stuff and toool.
cowlicks - we should ask if toool can move
thex - they moved it already
jarrod - depends on how many people.
ryan - could we fit it in turing? back room has plug access because wifi sucks.
lxpk - toool should just do stupid shit.
jatrrod- the networek connection has died every stupid shit hackathon soooo
ryan - yeah. even with wired?
jarrod - probably just a wireless.
lxpk - bring ethernet adaptor.
thex - will have at least one 5ghz network running indepedently.
ryan - who's workin on the ethernet switch in the back room?
crickets
thex - when are we doing setup?
jarrod - saturday morning.
thex - can't be here saturday mo9rning but it could be cool to drop extension cables and power stips.
lizzie - but godwaffle
thex - before staurday, church and turing.
jarrod - tables and chairs around turing and church.
will finish this discussion outside of meeting

** vr stuff
george and marky hosted a film festival in vr and it was a concept
we've been working on at altspace. was really cool. watching a 2d
screen inside an immersive theater, + q and a sessions. looking how to
develop space more. unity plugs right into it but it's still tricky.
lx and ryan will talk after.

george - 1000, 4000
lx - 5mof

george - nicolas cage's brother

** cowlicks wanted to have a safe space discussion

if you, maybe like a week ago, he saw a thing happen that made him
unsure how to handle it. wanted to have a discussion about how
noisebridge isn't very safe and how we can make it better.

in particular, someone came to noisebridge for the first time, guy
gave her a tour, monopolized her time for 3+ hours. she was friendly
but the guy wasn't picking up hints. he should have given her
space. if it's your first time here you want to be nice but he
wouldn't be surprised if she didn't come back.

tried to pull him aside without making it awkward but it didn't
work. that's something cowlicks wanted to make people aware of it. noisebridge being a safe space isn't only about harassment

thex - now that you've had time to think about it, how could you have
handled it? cowlicks - didn't do anything for
the fiorst hour, could
have been direct about talking somewhere else.
george - was there a complaint?
cowlicks - yeah I'm complaining.
george - did she complain?
cowlicks - I'm complaining. She probably received too much attention and it makes people uncomfortable. On your first time here you don't want to be
george - so he wouldn't leave her?
cowlicks - he was polite but trying
trent - what happened?
cowlicks - unresolved. letr's talk offline.

lxpk - whenever we mention what safe space is, tries to mention
this. this is the way safe space issues happen mostly. in our
discussions of safe spaces, we need to draw attention to
it. noisebridge historically has had a couple people who are beloved
but monopolizes peoples' times. it's not something most people are aware of.

cowlicks - yeah, we should do that.

lxpk - should maybe be on the safe space .

luke - there's an ambiguity around what it means to be excellent and
it's interesting because there's a big issue around social and
emotional labor. there's a burden especially put on women about
emotional labor. Maybe we should add a bit more clearness about what
it means to be excellent. some people may feel like it's excellent to
give other people all of their time. there's guilt wrapped up in
it. the safe space stuff is all about

trent - we have idioms, like "this person won't leave me alone".
cowlicks - but also she didn't ask him to leave alone.
lizzie -
george - can say "we can just go to the bathroom"
cowlicks - we need to make it explicit that the dude has to fuck off.

luke - to do it with kindness is important.
cowlicks
ryan - it can definitely be a disability

lxpk - some people have a disability but it's often just obliviousness. maybe you can put on headphones.

cowlicks - don't want to put more emphasis about what the person being
bothered should do. people aren't culpable for some kind of annoyances
and bothering people but they are if we make them aware of it. I think
most people are culpable but ignorant.

lxpk - other than the safe space discussions, how do we make this
known widely? greeting people is a good place. we should bring up
"don't monopolize time".
cowlicks - I have. and also point out anti-harassment policy. please bring it up giving a tour, especially if it's a dude.
thex - along those lines, the headphone thing, it would be nice if there was a general understood signal for "I'm here, I have something to do".
ryan - yeah.
cowlicks - it's not the responsibility of the person being harassed to signal that they need to be bother it.
thex - if it was understood that we have these headphones we could do it. it's somewhat common practice for bartenders to have codes. creating a social situation awareness or a safeword.

juan - on the door there's a piece of paper with blakc and yellowish
text about how we have an anti-harassment policy and how if people are
hanging around others it's not excellent. signs are a good way to
advocate outside meetings.

cowlicks - direct response. but we have hundreds of thousand signs
around noisebridge. we should point that out more.

thex - good. ryan - so, I understand both points. it shouldn't be the
problem of the one being harassed to respond. but also there needs to
be an ability for them if no one else has noticed to raise
attention. we need to make it happen as little as possible but no
amount of training .
lizzie - leaving will always be easier than weird cultural headphones things.

marky - on a certain level it's the person's being harassed's
responsibility. we need to create a safe space by allowing people to
tell each other to fuck off. you don't know if she was actually
bothered.

(augur - this is a queue not a stack)

cowlicks - direct response. we have a problem at noisebridge where
there's very few women. there aren't going to be more women coming to
the space to use tools. women are expected to be passive and nice and
it's much easier to leave than to tell them to fuck off. we need to
explain to people that you can be monopolizing someone's time without
trying to bother them. you should give people space, especially if
it's their first time here and they want to leave.

george - when I came here two weeks ago, I was uncomfortable because I
didn't know anyone here. passing someone off and leaving them alone
sometimes makes people uncomfortable.

marky - who was more aware of the harassment policy - the new person
or the person talking?

cowlicks - it would have been great if she had felt like she could say
that. but these are nuanced situations. it can make the space
unwelcoming and I don't think if someone comes to noisebridge to do
something. this is a nuanced thing and it's something that that person
should have realized. we need to train our community a little better
and police ourselves.

george - can we have a girl show them the space?

trent - I don't think that makes any sense. the anti-harassment policy
specifically says that it includes persistent, uninvited
communication. that's harassments. your (cowlicks) perception is that
it was persistent and uninvited. do people always mention the
anti-harassment policy on tours (lizzie, cowlicks, jarrod, thex
(mentioning it)). I think the fact that there is one

luke - the boilerplate is there, and it doesn't get contested, but the
things that stick we can really emblazon in the space.

trent - there are signs.

luke - but there are bigger things.

trent - maybe we need anti-harassment art?

luke - bmw plant has little signs for don't talking to it. maybe we can circumvent social problems with

lizzie - nobody reads signs. well-known phemomeon.

trent - but pointing to signs is useful.

ben - noticed it when he went to the bathroom and thought it was cool,
as a newer person.

augur - these are jarrod's sign.

cowlicks and lizzie like em.

ben - but it's on the left, so it's hard to see when you're coming in.

jarrod - maybe the time has passed, but I feel like the conversation
was verring into "the what are the responsibilities of the person
being harassed". regardless of their responsibilities, what can
noisebridge do to lessen that occurence? that's where this discussion
should be, not "should someone say something".

thex - the thing that iv'e heard between most all of this is the
awareness factor. unawarness is the culprit. if it's part of the tour
or the and part of the community standards, if that was like the
top-level thing and this was more readily discussed. to me that's
something very different from safe spaces. be aware that people monopolize times intentionally and unintentionally, but that's not quite about safe spaces.

cowlicks - would like to push the fact that this is a safe space
issue. giving people unwanted attention *is* harassment. it makes
people feel like it's not a safe space.

lxpk - jc (thex) was saying it's not a safe space. I think it might
not register in peoples' heads as a safe space issue. but the sign
deserves to be big. maybe a comic.

lizzie - we should talk about what we can do outside of specifics of sign-making.

thex - let's continue this afterwards.

trent says we're at the end of the stack.

thanks trent for taking stack!

** ryan - wiki
different meeting probably. lxpk - it would be nice to have a concise
hand-held handout to contain all this. infospaces have zines. the zine
from longhaul infoshop might be a cool thing to have. we could talk
about it more. but it would be cool tot ake

Cool! who's enever been before? (hands)

Alright cool. meetings can be boring but we're gonna try to not. Well first. let's go over the meeting rules.

Rules: be excellent.

Roles: moderator? facilitator? note-taker?

Would someone like to explain what noisebridge is?

"Free, donation-based hackerspace" - Keita

So right after we introduce noisebridge we introduce ourselves.

* Keita - has been coming here ~10 times. ios development. Likes ios apps. Friend (name ? ) introduced them.
* Miet? - second or third time coming here. Came last week for different meeting. Has electrical engineering background. Software engineer. Does circuit design and code, so here to practice + interview and things. Went to hackerdojo in santa clara for the past seven or eight months. Just moved here, wanted to check out noisebridge. Heard that noisebridge was the hacker dojo of sf.
* Jacob - couple months. Introduced to noisebridge 2 years ago by patrick. Didn't come much. Burnt out. Comes here. Works, laser cuts, leds.
* Charlie - coming for not exactly sure. Maybe about a year? Anyway. Usually works on electronics. Various projects. Working on nixie tube character display with donated tubes. Also does computer stuff. Likes to sort donations because I don't know. Ask if you want to find something.
* Sean (?) - got to sf from shanghai. Met Mitch there. Likes electronics. Motor controllers and levitation.
* Alex - Open science summit 2012. Popping in and out. AUtomating, oss, programming languages, what else am I supposed to say.
* Popcorn Rafael - regularly coming to noisebridge since just before christmas. Made christmas gifts with lasers. Hadn't really come here often but knew about it. Now here regularly. Recently unemployed, now a new job, but still going to try to come. Works on ahcking old thinkpads and building stuff that doesn't always work.
* Nate - works on software engineering. Involved with gamebridge and unity. Works on unity and VR stuff. Focused on VR. Can tell people more about that, or about java.
* Jacob - moved to palo alto five weeks ago. been to noisebridge twice before. Trying to get into the privacy scene. Tryiung to create a way to accept payments via prepaid credit cards. Venmo without linking actual bank.
* Jay - first time here. Interested in a lot of things. Self-driving is one. if anyone wants to build a small self-driving car will help. Specializing in neural networks and computer vision. Would be hapen to help on electronics side and model (?) side. Another project - equities trading w/ reinforcement learning. It's free and open! Use it.
Has a startup in indonesia. 13 people. Building ios and web apps.
* Ben - Went to the meetup yuesterday. Went to circuit hackin. Got a tour. Likes people teaching each other. Here for another meetup for making games. Also want to contributes. Works at an optometry office. Can we grind lenses here??
* Jeremey - fixes hats. likes ai. Rabbit holed into haskel.. Now learning datalog and prolog. Talk to me.

Did we miss anybody?

Noisebridge has introduced itself to us and we have introduced ourselves to noisebridge so we're good. We're going to touch on things briefly.

Participation - "anyone can participate".
Safe space - " Noisebridge is considered a safe space because we want people to hack, especially people who don't have other venues to hack"
Victoria - glad it's a sentence.

Membership binder. You can be a member of the noisebridge if you want.

What's a member? What do you think? Chill out and work on things here. Charlie - being a member is different than just coming here ot hack. It's more for people who want to demonstrate commitment on a concrete level. You can apply to be a member and can block consensus if a big decision happens. We'll talk about consensus later. Anyway yeah.
PBS membership! You get a badge.
Victoria - it's more like sierra club.
You get mail about board electrions. Sierra club is full of shit.

Membership binder - what's a philantropist? You're a sustaining member of PBS and get to watch all the shows at noisebridge. You get to do everything just like anyone but you can also close down the space if you're the last person. and you pay money. And you get 24/7 access.

Reader submission - lizzie wants to be a philantropist. So does chris venter and patrick minault. All accepted??

You can't block shit if you're a philantropist. and it can be revoked. If lizzie shits in the woodshop she can stop being a philantropist.
No one objects! am philantropist. Rights and philantropist. Needs money.

Membership applications are in this binder. There's a long wiki page about membership. You get two members. We talk about it four weeks. We ask you personal questions. We gossip. We reveal whether or not we've consensed.

Consensus - anyone can block other members. Rationale is that person blocking may not want to explain.

Financial reports - ????

Explanation of Consensus - lizzie said this so didn't type it.

Victoria - blocking is more like "if this proposal happens, I will walk away from noisebridge". Block is a "slow down", not a "no".

But 99% of things are just things people do. You don't need consensus for everything. Doocracy!

Rafeal - Big C - trying to modify the physical space, or move noisebridge, or something. Little c is like "I decide we have too many oscilloscopes. let's move some."

Discussion items-
Jacob - wants to get a group for a few conferences in the summer: Defcon, a few others. Has a 2016 van. Wants to go.
Jeremy - just being a jackass. Possessed?

Jacob has a van. Wants to network with people who want to go. Exchange contact info. July 27th! Las Vegas! Defcon is the world's biggest "family oriented hacking event". Not hacking bad. Head of NSA goes. Security conference. 12h drive. There's a documentary. You can get whatever kind of experience you want. 4-day event. dontworrybehappyplease@aol.com .

Friend Ivan wants to talk about etching boards with acid and lasers.

Keita - doing a meetup about ios development. Weekend-gathering-style-meetup. We all design or discuss an ios topic. Met Ruth. Wants a key so he can do Sunday meetups.

Rosse - interviews people about corporate work environments. If someone works in a large office. Contact me@rossegates.com

DELETE EVERYTHING BELOW THIS LINE WHEN YOU POST THE MEETING MINUTES KTHX!!!

Instructions
Congratulations and/or condolences! You're reading this because you're participating in a meeting of Noisebridge!

Meetings should be limited to an hour when possible. Shorter is fine, but avoid rushing.

You should read this instructional section thoroughly, and treat them as a guideline for how to host a meeting of Noisebridge. There are three ingredients to an Excellent meeting: A number of note takers, some facilitators, and participants.

Meetings are just one of the tools used at Noisebridge to create net forward progress on whatever it is we're all trying to do. Meetings aren't the only way to make decisions or have discussions, and in fact its usually a much better idea to talk about things outside the meeting before dragging the entire community kicking and screaming into it.

Note Takers
# Confirm last meeting was saved
# Take new notes
# Save and share the notes at the end of the meeting (instructions at the bottom).

Facilitators
There are generally two kinds of facilitator roles at a Noisebridge meeting:

* Stack taker - Useful when a lot of folks want to hop on the discussion stack. This gives everyone a turn to have their feelings heard. Usually only works when there is exactly one stack taker.
* Moderators - Keeps the meeting moving and prevents everyone from wasting too much time on one subject. Anyone is free to pick up moderation and move the meeting along.

In general, moderators should:
* Understand the structure of Noisebridge decision-making
* Make sure everyone gets a chance to speak.
* Speak only minimally yourself.
* Keep the meeting moving, and avoid getting bogged down.
* Identify discussion items, arrange times limits for talking about each item.
* Identify and summarize consensus, suggest things that need to be done.
* Get the membership binder and ensure that it is returned safely.

Participants
Everyone at a Noisebridge meeting who has consented to participating in one is a participant!

* Say your name before you talk.
* Remain on-topic, and speak as concisely as possible.
* Assist the note-taker with any links or corrections that are needed.
* Remain respectful of other participants, their time, and the consensus and moderation process.

* New philanthropists:
* Consensus Items:
* Discussion Items:

Introductions
* Invite a knowledgeable volunteer to explain what Noisebridge is about:
<blockquote>Noisebridge is a 501c3 nonprofit that provides a space for creation, collaboration, and learning about technology and creative projects. Noisebridge provides space, power tools, and infrastructure to help the public learn new skills and create cool things. Noisebridge continues to exist through and depends entirely on membership fees and donations. Our code of conduct is 'Be excellent to each other'."</blockquote>
* Introduce any experimental or unusual moderation techniques that may be using during the meeting like: direct responses, limited speaking time, orderless stack, &c.
* Round of introductions (remember, announcements come later):
** What's your name
** What do you do
** What do you maintain at Noisebridge?
** if you are new: how did you hear about Noisebridge?

Short announcements and events
* Cool new projects? Something you'd like people to know? Say now, but keep it short! One or two sentences please!
* Any happenings at the space of which members should be made aware.
* Don't hog everyone's time since we all just want to hack!

Safe Space
Note: This section is experimental. We discussed it at Meeting_Notes_2016_06_28. We're going to try it for the next meeting, and see how it goes, and then discuss in the discussion section how it went, and how we'd like to tweak it.

Noisebridge is a safe space. Invite a volunteer to describe what that means.

Some specific points you might prompt the group to touch on, if it doesn't happen naturally:
* What to do if you feel uncomfortable.
* Noisebridge strives to be radically inclusive. What does that mean?
* Noisebridge has an antiharassment policy. What does that mean?

Participation
Invite a knowledgable volunteer to describe who can participate at Noisebridge, including:
* Describe how to get an rfid key for the door system
* Describe how to get access to slack

Philanthropists
* Invite a knowledgeable volunteer to describe Philantropy, and the application process.
* Read off any names from the binder for the past month. Any applicants must have their sponsor present to vouch for them.
* If there are no objections, they're a philanthropist! Their pledge should be handed over to the Secretary posthaste, after which their token will be updated to give them the 24/7 access they've earned(?)

Membership Binder
* Invite a knowledgeable volunteer to describe membership, and the application process.
<blockquote>Being a member of Noisebridge is not like being a member of a gym or your local chess club. Anyone can come to Noisebridge to hack and learn: you don't need to be a member for that. At Noisebridge, membership is something different: it means taking responsibility and committing to help to maintain, improve, and govern Noisebridge. As a member of Noisebridge, you don't just come here to hack and learn, you actively work to improve what you see around you, help to deal with problems, and make this community and space better than it is today.</blockquote>
* Read off any names from the binder for the past month. Mark down a check or other indicator on every open application to keep track of how many weeks they've been read out.
* Anyone eligible to join this week should
** introduce themselves,
** answer any questions members may have for them, then
** leave the area in search of gifts (traditionally beer and a lime, or cookies) for the rest of the group.
* The rest of the meeting should reach consensus on whether they may join.
* Remember to applaud new members when they return.

Financial Report
* Funds in bank:
* Noisetor (See the bulletpoints at the bottom of http://noisetor.net/finances/#summary):
* Any other details by those participating in handling our financials

Consensus
* invite a knowledgeable volunteer to give a brief primer on consensus process
* It is important that everyone in attendance understands at least:
** Blocking with verbalized principled objections.
** Why we use consensus over other approaches to decision making.
** How consensus isn't a legislative process
** Why consensus isn't applicable to some things like conflict resolution, resolution of time sinks, and the like.

Proposals from last week
(Add any items which are consensed upon or someone has raised a principle objection for to the Consensus Items History page.)

Proposals for next week
(Add any new items for consensus to the Current Consensus Items page.)

Discussion
Longer discussion items belong here. This is the last part of the meeting so that people can break off and continue their discussion afterwards.

Discussion Items
If any important discussion happens, it should be happening after forward progress is made during consensus.

End of Meeting
# Return the membership binder to its rightful location.
# Discuss any items for which there was not time during the meeting.
# Enjoy the company of your fellow hacker, robot, or robothacker.

Note taker posts the notes
# Clean and tidy the meeting notes including removing all these really verbose instructions.
# Fill out the short summary at the top listing just announcements, consensus items, discussion topics, and names of new members and philanthropists.
# Copy paste the notes to the next meeting page. (They will become Last meeting at midnight.)
--------------------

j - Noisebridge is a nonprofit 5013c educational org to so you can go ahead and create you can teach you can learen you can build many cool things as long as you follow our one and only rule that is to be excellent to one another.l you don't need to pay dues, you don't need to pay fees to come to noisebridge. but we like donations. but you can come here for free.

mitch -everyone is always welcome here. it's always free. bring your friends. everything here happens because we're bad at it but we do it anyway. doocracy!

lizzie - anti-harassment policy eytc

Patrick philantropist thing
---------------------------

patrick has been coming. wants to be a philantropist.

ryan - philantropy is responsibility over noisebridg.e you need to know how to protect the space and close it if you're the last. and be willing to give tours? you dont need to be here every week or anything just come and go wen you feel like. as long as there's nothing wrong with your money you can be a philantropist.

"I actually forgot we should go around and introduce everyone"
--------------------------------------------------------------
* jeremy has been hjere since june. software, ai haskell.
* adrian - new here! first time! never been here but mentioned before to jeremy that he made friends and tried to start a noisebridge once. a few years later he organized a series of big robot scholarships. He can help with that stuff. Does embedded systems and lives in the city.
* lxpk - started a robots group. wanted an adrian. there wasn't an adrian :( but there's a poster. all can be adrian's. lxpk teaches gamebridge / mixed reality / vr / etc. Making a noisebridge.
* michael - undergrad at usf. wants to enlist members for on-campus media project. "on the docket". new here. interested in immersing himself. "when did you say gamebridge is starting?"
* adam builds stuff. hardware electronics physics. if you do that cool.
* matt - doesn't do do. breaks a lot of stuff. broke drill bit. wants donations for drill bits.
* ryan - the noisebridge person for quite a while. am here mainly on tues for gamebr and meetings. comes here more often for other little projects. and is trying to work on a couple little noisebridge projects. yeah. will talk more about this later.
* scott - formal background is intersection of education and technology. helps companies prototype physical devices. curious about everything. likes lasers and other peoples projects.
* nicole - programming, teaching, trying to laser.
* cwlx - venture capitalist. looking for the cool new thing. interesting ideas. talk to cwlx.
* patrick - programmer datascientist tensorflow thing machine learning neuroscience. not clothing. but neuroscience. no clones. maybe sleep-deprived. neuroscience. kind of hacking.
* lizzie - electronics, security, get distracted easily with projects

* jeff - marine engineer. really tiny robotos.
* quintessa -likes music a lot. artistic. nice. main projects are music and dorkroom. likes reducing reverb and cutting foam. sells lights.
* rafael - electrical engineer. old thinkpads. bothering people and learning. helping foamcutting
* chris - producer / composer / visual programming languages / processing. in the right place. "we just started to discover the huge processing people. there's like seven of them" - jeremy
* steve - theoretical physics. software. creative coding, processing, etc. more interesting in statistical mechanics and deep learning.
* also steve - broadcast engineer. reneewed interest in nerding. game design. looking to do that here.
* mitch - today was really fun I met one of the people who started burning man long ago and hung with him all day in his little teeny office on ??? tower in oakland. started cacaphony society, which when he visited sf as an adult he came out of montgomery bart. a bunch of weirdos were handing out flyers saying "yuo may already be a member of the cacaphony society". teaching new friends arduino. project-based education vs fucking tests. talks. cofounder of noisebridge in 2007. focusing on getting giant brain robots working before their first performance before april 7.
* j "that's hard to follow up. I'm just j. Passionate about education and took over mitch's circuit hacking classes. I've been teaching that and teaching outside of noisebridge. talking to schools of all kinds about why education is exciting? I want noisebridge to be even cooler."
* Greg - has been coming ehre for a long time.

jeremy "if anyone wants to add anything to the agenda add it now."

alexpeak - "like I was saying everyone wants robots. if I can help restart roboti groups I'm down."

"Let's go back to philantropy"
------------------------------
does anyone want to sponsor patrick?
alex peake - "you're a data scientist? I'll sponsor you. Kind of a joke but I moved in with zephyr because he said he's a data scientist".
mitch - not cool
steve - "I'll give you the keys to my living room"
mitch - does anyone have any objections?
lxpk - do you understand closing up?
p - explain that
alex - [words about closing the space]
ryan - make sure all three doors are closed.
jeremy - turn off hot things. make sure windows are closed.
mitch - "I definitely you need to have know the responsibilities before becoming a philantropist and then you can become a philantropist next tuesday"
jeremy - "anything else?"

nope

Michael - usf (mamondello@dons.usfca.edu)
-------------
Doing an on-campus media project audio slideshow. Would like to do recorded interviews with members of Noisebridge - basically discussing a topic of the sort of quote unquote diy ethic. wanted to talk to members / philantropist to talk about your experience of the palce, the value it has, and what you guys are working on. lasers, unity, etc etc, clones? good start.

talk to michael if you want to be interviewed!!!\

alex "where does it go?"
michael - "write-up and interview on student-run newspaper of usf"

email michael!!
\_____\ \__\

anything else? - jeremy - questions

(\__/) This is Bunny. Copy and
(='.'=) paste Bunny to help him
(")_(") gain world domination

mitch - "two people came in"
-----------------------------
tayopa (sp?) - very silly things - a little bit of datra analysis for a video game (long story) and also optimizing ???.
elf (sp?) - likes making brain models? interested in third-generation ???

ryan - 3d camera
----------------

ryan has a 3d camera? or noisebridge did. a camera called the aura. a very high-end 360 degree livestreaming video camera. delay is about 11s but that's it's still very very good we've tested it a couple times and I was interested in figuring out what everyone wants to use it for. Anyone who knows how to use it can just borrow it if everyone here trusts them to use it. If there's any noisebridge meetings that we might want to record in 360 or stuff like that, but consent on video especially if live.
Alex - some people on noisebridg eodnt want to be videod because elite. we can make a little light umbrella to hide people. we can control the 360 bit a little bit.

ryan - what ideas do other people have?
mitch - 3d modelling things for 3d printing or VR and if there are any projects or areas of noisebridge for virtual tours.
alex - I just met someone who has a tango phone who was capturing model of the space. going to combine it with 360 camera. if you want to capture something and share it with the world we'll put it in the virtual reality exhibit that we're making.

patrick - when is maker faire?

alex - early may. two hundred thousand people making!!! in san mateo fairgrounds.
ryan - maker faire is 1/10 of sf.

jeremey - cut it short. talk to ryan.

j steam power
-------------
j is j again. has been teaching at noisebridge. is passionate about it. the next step is that we are developing a STEAM program

Science
technology
engineering
art
math
^
STEAM

If anyone is interested in the actual development and scientific research (because along with developing the program we want to go ahead and have studies about the effectiveness of the program. not only to ourselves but to everyone! we want to prove hackerspaces are good. if you have info or know anyone interested in academic research, bookkeeping, accounting, or writing grant applications, please come to j.

Scott - going to an egineering school. sees people with funding. shirts that control data? who owns that data. what data? sensors, right? they create data? but I guess it is data. but who owns that? I guess we own it. who has access to that? who can modify it? "I don't know". people at funded startups. Real conversation. People developing this technology had not thought of this. You make different decisions when you've exercised or eaten or had sex. we also need to advocate for "SHIP".

(\__/) Este es Bunny. Copiar y
(='.'=) Pegar a Bunny para ayudarlo
(")_(") Ganar dominación mundial

-------------------
Scott says:
"#STEAM is an explosive disaster w/o a vessel to contain it & give direction - a SHIP.
Story-telling
History
Interpersonal Skills
Philosophy"
We DO need the power of STEAM! We just need to make sure we're thoughtful about how that power is harnessed & the direction in which it takes humanity
-------------------

j loves it. we want it to really be involved and nice as possible, but open to everyone. not only can noisebridge benefit from it but other hackerspaces have a guideline too. We're going for a grant from the NSF. Up to 225k! If we do get it it will be very good for noisebridge but the fact that we'll be able to do things like 3rd-party bookkeeping and accounting that will alleviate a lot of the background work to run the space. If you've never done accounting it's a real pain. So I'm looking at ways to help.

mary - something about annihilation?

jeremy - there's an education slack channel!!!!

j - if you know anything about grants or getting funding please join #fiscal-sponsorship.

mitch - robot brains
--------------------

"demo!" - jeremy.
"did anyone come in that didn't say hi"

francis (?) -- just hanging out
frank -- freecad?
joe likes to eat food

"go ahead mitch"

mitch - has been playing with tech since childhood. born a geek. technology as scott brought up is really powerful. if you play with it without knowing consequences you'll make the world worse. no way around it. one of the things I love about noisebridge and hackerspaces is that they attract people who think about these ramifications. This isn't the case in the larger technology culture. Many people use their skills in dangerous ways. Mitch has been playing with notions of consciousness, physical psychology, brainwaves for decades now. And is really fascinated. Friend Kal (?) has been making big robots and small robots. He has an exhibit in this 1940s suitcase. you open it and it looks like a horror movie. has a hand that comes out of a grave and starts scraping. met him at robotics conference in vienna austria that only has robots that make cocktails. Mitch and kal (?) are collaborating on a project with giant robots. Mitch is working on the brainwave interface. Friend Masahiro in Berlin made the electronics. It's a good EEG for only $250. As good quality as medical data but only $250. Mitch uses that to control the five motors of the robots (robot arms) which go 16' tall. They have beetle pincers rather than hands. Two people, one for each arm, try to get the robots to kiss. But these things can kill you!!! At first mitch designed the hardware and went to recompile the code to put new code on. he was sitting just like that and as soo n as the code uploaded, all 5 motors went on full speed. Robots want to kiss but almost killed mitch.

The first time Kal tried to control it he got a little bit nervous.

"Bad, bad panda".

[Some longer video]

First performance at the lab. 3 blocks away, on 16th. April 7, 8th, 9th. Ticket price is $8. if you want to come but can't afford that Mitch can put you on guest list. thelab.org. http://www.thelab.org/

"Have youy considered a big red button to stop?"
"That would be cheating. But I did it anyway".

3d scanning noisebridge
-----------------------

[quick demo]
skip me and come back next

?? - second time here. from japan. will get tour after meeting.
(\__/) Este es Bunny. Copiar y
(='.'=) Pegar a Bunny para ayudarlo
(")_(") Ganar dominación mundial

quinn - leds
------------
"So i have these RGB leds. Bought them on amazon. RGB but want RGBW Too long to return them but perfectly fine. I paid $15.98 per set. There are three sets. $17 per or best offer?"

mitch - are the individually addressable? nope. whole strip makes one color?

quinn - they're not like that. but maybe controllable per color.

talk to her if you're interested in getting them. or helping with the dorkroom. going to cut foam. Also women here get on the slack channel!!! and show her what you're doing. Not enough and sometimes depressing. Empower thyself!

VR
---
Aru -
anonymous piratebox p2p sharing thing. new image for the pi zero. created a virtual peer-to-peer island. the project is on hackaday. if you search for avalon or metaverse you can find documentation there. wants to 3d scan noisebridge for vr.

ryan - did you get consent?

a - no people in it.

lock for a/v box
------

lots of keys in a locked box. might open it. also mischief can pick it.

mill bits
--------

mills bits break! but if we have mill bits we cna make pcbs. please donate.

ryan - if you have questions about mill bits or harbor freight ask ryan.

[vr demo interlude]

noisebridge fiscal sponsorship
-----------------------------
ryan is writing some articles for fun. doesn't want to be restricted to the whims of any of the big publishers he knows. would rather go through publishing within a mini-nonprofit-style publisher for journalism. it doesn't really need much money but a bit of background stability and oversight. so that if we send them out for republishment then we still have journalistic control. whereas if you're just a journalist media companies can change a lot. but as an educational institution noisebridge could tell them not to do that.

"are there other people who want to write articles or do reviews?" reviewing other peoplese' contents with analytical and educational mindset.

let's just stop it there, if anything interests you. if you're new find us and we'll give you a tour! great meeting! enjoy! hack! robots!
ryan - philantropy is responsibility over noisebridg.e you need to know how to protect the space and close it if you're the last. and be willing to give tours? you dont need to be here every week or anything just come and go wen you feel like. as long as there's nothing wrong with your money you can be a philantropist.

"I actually forgot we should go around and introduce everyone"
--------------------------------------------------------------
+ jeremy has been hjere since june. software, ai haskell.
+ adrian - new here! first time! never been here but mentioned before to jeremy that he made friends and tried to start a noisebridge once. a few years later he organized a series of big robot scholarships. He can help with that stuff. Does embedded systems and lives in the city.
+ lxpk - started a robots group. wanted an adrian. there wasn't an adrian :( but there's a poster. all can be adrian's. lxpk teaches gamebridge / mixed reality / vr / etc. Making a noisebridge.
+ michael - undergrad at usf. wants to enlist members for on-campus media project. "on the docket". new here. interested in immersing himself. "when did you say gamebridge is starting?"
+ adam builds stuff. hardware electronics physics. if you do that cool.
+ matt - doesn't do do. breaks a lot of stuff. broke drill bit. wants donations for drill bits.
+ ryan - the noisebridge person for quite a while. am here mainly on tues for gamebr and meetings. comes here more often for other little projects. and is trying to work on a couple little noisebridge projects. yeah. will talk more about this later.
+ scott - formal background is intersection of education and technology. helps companies prototype physical devices. curious about everything. likes lasers and other peoples projects.
+ nicole - programming, teaching, trying to laser.
+ cwlx - venture capitalist. looking for the cool new thing. interesting ideas. talk to cwlx.
+ patrick - programmer datascientist tensorflow thing machine learning neuroscience. not clothing. but neuroscience. no clones. maybe sleep-deprived. neuroscience. kind of hacking.
+ lizzie - electronics, security, get distracted easily with projects

+ jeff - marine engineer. really tiny robotos.
+ quintessa -likes music a lot. artistic. nice. main projects are music and dorkroom. likes reducing reverb and cutting foam. sells lights.
+ rafael - electrical engineer. old thinkpads. bothering people and learning. helping foamcutting
+ chris - producer / composer / visual programming languages / processing. in the right place. "we just started to discover the huge processing people. there's like seven of them" - jeremy
+ steve - theoretical physics. software. creative coding, processing, etc. more interesting in statistical mechanics and deep learning.
+ also steve - broadcast engineer. reneewed interest in nerding. game design. looking to do that here.
+ mitch - today was really fun I met one of the people who started burning man long ago and hung with him all day in his little teeny office on ??? tower in oakland. started cacaphony society, which when he visited sf as an adult he came out of montgomery bart. a bunch of weirdos were handing out flyers saying "yuo may already be a member of the cacaphony society". teaching new friends arduino. project-based education vs fucking tests. talks. cofounder of noisebridge in 2007. focusing on getting giant brain robots working before their first performance before april 7.
+ j "that's hard to follow up. I'm just j. Passionate about education and took over mitch's circuit hacking classes. I've been teaching that and teaching outside of noisebridge. talking to schools of all kinds about why education is exciting? I want noisebridge to be even cooler."
+ Greg - has been coming ehre for a long time.

jeremy "if anyone wants to add anything to the agenda add it now."

alexpeak - "like I was saying everyone wants robots. if I can help restart roboti groups I'm down."

\| /__| |

"are there other people who want to write articles or do reviews?" reviewing other peoplese' contents with analytical and educational mindset.

let's just stop it there, if anything interests you. if you're new find us and we'll give you a tour! great meeting! enjoy! hack! robots!
lizzie: Matt and I were talking about having a special subset of the parts shelves be specific parts that we re-order when they're running low and can donate to when we use.

[2:36 AM]
What do you all think?

[2:38 AM]
Right now I'm thinking:
+ Lots of potentiometers with the same footprints
+ Lots of switches with predictable footprints
+ Common caps and resistors
+ Common ics (beyond 555 timers)
+ Nice connectors, jacks, plugs, header pins, etc (edited)

[2:39 AM]
The parts section is great but it can be really annoying to design boards,
since we don't have parts numbers for many parts, and the footprints are
unpredictable.

[2:39 AM]
Being able to reorder the entire special stock would be cool. (edited)
What is Five Minutes of Fame?
Five Minutes of Fame (5MoF) is ten five minute talks in an hour, with a short intermission so you can get another beer.
Talks tend to be ad-hoc, poorly-planned, and awe-inspiring.

How do I sign up to give a talk?
Sign up to speak by following the links above, clicking "edit", and adding yourself to the list.

When and Where?
5mof happens at Noisebridge, 2169 Mission St, San Francisco every Thursday when there's interest, and definitely every third Thursday of the month.
