Consensus items
* There were no proposals from last week .

We have the following proposals for next week:

* Tom proposes that we recommend to the board that they select Danny to be Treasurer, Tom to be Secretary, and Snail to be President for 2013.
* It is proposed that Shawn Landden (photo) is barred from Noisebridge. He is prohibited from entering the space or participating in the community. (Here is some context.)
* Tom proposes that we reimburse Mitch up to $1000 to replenish our t-shirt supply.
<blockquote>We are currently out, except for a handful of women's sizes. It would be great to have a bunch before the fund-raiser party on the 30th. I (Mitch) am happy to front the money if there are no objections -- to be paid back to me upon consensus (to ensure that we can have the T-shirts before the fund-raiser). All of our T-shirts have previously been printed locally at East Bay Screenprint. The last time we got T-shirts, we got 200 of them at $7.41 each (including shipping) -- total = $1,481.63. If we buy 50 T-shirts, the cost is $8.74 each (indluding shipping) -- total = $437.00. (I've never bought 100 before, but the price will be somewhere in between.) -- Mitch.</blockquote>

Discussion Notes
Shawn Landden
We had an extensive discussion of Shawn Landden's violent and unacceptable behavior. A written deposition was submitted, compiling a compendium of witness and survivor statements. Several at the meeting attested to this same violent and unacceptable behavior. We have initiated the consensus process to ban him.

Attendance
* SuperQ is the moderator.
* Snail is unofficial.
* Tom is taking notes.
* David is here!
* Garret is a junior architect
* Ursula hacks language! <speaks German>
* Amber is a physics teacher. She's new here.
* Miloh is pleased to meet you!
* Philippe
* Rob
* Dan
* Casey is calibrating or fancy new vinyl cutter!
* Alex teaches game development on Mondays.
* Kevin is part of the post waste nexus (also Mondays).
* Andrew created Satan: the front-end is in Java, the back-end in JS.
* Johan has 7 regular expressions, and -- now -- 14 problems.
* Deobek is here for the first time.
* Will is new, came for 3d printing, and has pie for us (early for pi day).
* Liz is our self-appointed anarchist librarian, part of the feminist hacker hive, and the Mozilla bugmaster (yes, the Mozilla bugmaster).
* Tom proposes that we recommend to the board that they select Danny to be Treasurer, Tom to be Secretary, and Snail to be President for 2013.
== Introduction and Names ==

* Invite a knowledgeable volunteer to explain what Noisebridge is about:
<blockquote>Noisebridge is a 501c3 nonprofit that provides a space for creation, collaboration, and learning about technology and creative projects. Noisebridge provides space, power tools, and infrastructure to help the public learn new skills and create cool things. Noisebridge continues to exist through and depends entirely on membership fees and donations. Our code of conduct is 'Be excellent to each other'."</blockquote>
* Invite a knowledgeable volunteer to give a brief primer on consensus process: We agree and so should you! Only paid-up members can block consensus.
* Introduce any new or unusual moderation techniques that you may be using during the meeting like: direct responses, limited speaking time, orderless stack, &c.
* Round of introductions (remember, announcements come later):
** What's your name,
** are you a member,
** what do you do, and
** if you are new: how did you hear about Noisebridge?

Short Announcements
* Cool new projects? Something you'd like people to know? Say now, but keep it short!
* Any happenings at the space of which members should be made aware.

New or Stale Events
* Is there anything new happening at the space?
* Is there anything that has stopped happening at the space?
* If this is the first meeting of the month, review all the and try to weed out stale events.

Membership Binder
* Invite a knowledgeable volunteer to describe membership, and the application process.
<blockquote>Being a member of Noisebridge is not like being a member of a gym or your local chess club. Anyone can come to Noisebridge to hack and learn: you don't need to be a member for that. At Noisebridge, membership is something different: it means taking responsibility and committing to help to maintain, improve, and govern Noisebridge. As a member of Noisebridge, you don't just come here to hack and learn, you actively work to improve what you see around you, help to deal with problems, and make this community better than it is today.</blockquote>
<blockquote>If you want to show your commitment to Noisebridge and the community here without becoming a capital-M-Member, consider being a Noisebridge associate. Associates pay their dues to the treasurer just like members, use the space just like members, and are valued participants in the community just like members. The difference is that associate membership doesn't involve consensus: there's no need to go through consensus to become an associate, but associates don't get to block consensus either.</blockquote>
* Read off any names from the binder for the past month. Write a check on every open application.
* Anyone eligible to join this week should
** introduce themselves,
** answer any questions members may have for them, then
** leave the area in search of gifts (traditionally beer and a lime, or cookies) for the rest of the group.
* The rest of the meeting should reach consensus on whether they may join.
* Remember to applaud new members when they return.

Financial Report
* Funds in bank:
* Noisetor (See the bulletpoints at the bottom of http://noisetor.net/finances/#summary):

Consensus items
You may wish to invite a knowledgeable volunteer to repeat a brief primer on the consensus process.

Proposals from last week
(Add any items which pass or are blocked to the Consensus Items History page.)

Proposals for next week
(Add any new items for consensus to the Current Consensus Items page.)

Discussion Items
If an item of discussion drags on too long, further discussion may be postponed until after the meeting ends.

During discussion, it is not necessary to write down exact what each person says. Record the topics of discussion, and any items of consensus or controversy here. Detailed descriptions of the conversation should go on the discuss page for this meeting.

End of Meeting
* PGP Key Signing could happen now, check the list to see who wants in on the action.
* Return the membership binder to it's rightful location.
* Clean and tidy the meeting notes, then save them to the wiki.
* Send a summary of the meeting notes to the discussion list.
* Enjoy the company of your fellow hacker or robot.
* Discuss any items for which there was not time during the meeting.
The slightly more sophisticated approach would be to use 3d image segmentation algorithms like FSL's BET, which is nicely re-implemented in BioImage Suite or the watershed algorithm (the videos are awesome) which is implemented in Freesurfer.
File Formats:
*.obj - "The OBJ file format is a simple data-format that represents 3D geometry alone — namely, the position of each vertex, the UV position of each texture coordinate vertex, normals, and the faces that make each polygon defined as a list of vertices, and texture vertices. Vertices are stored in a counter-clockwise order by default, making explicit declaration of normals unnecessary."
*.stl - "STL files describe only the surface geometry of a three dimensional object without any representation of color, texture or other common CAD model attributes... An STL file describes a raw unstructured triangulated surface by the unit normal and vertices (ordered by the right-hand rule) of the triangles using a three-dimensional Cartesian coordinate system."
*.pyl - "The format was principally designed to store three dimensional data from 3D scanners. It supports a relatively simple description of a single object as a list of nominally flat polygons. A variety of properties can be stored including: color and transparency, surface normals, texture coordinates and data confidence values.
Motivations
We want to "make the invisible visible", to bridge our senses. Many group members were inspired years ago by this awesome Wired article, which describes obtaining an <i>unerring sense of direction</i> via a compass belt. Is the brain really plastic enough to adapt to entirely new senses? How natural would it feel after you've fully adapted? Then what happens when you take the device off?

What new sense do you want? What existing sense might it map onto?

Terminology
To avoid confusion (where possible) we'll try to use these terms.

"Sensor" is the device that detects external stuff that the body (probably) can't detect. Sensors can be divided into those that sense the world, and those that digitize a user's actions. The latter are more commonly called "human input devices", (HID's).

"Display" is the way the device shows data to the body (not necessarily visually). This gets around the device-centric / body-centric problem that shows up when using the terms input & output.

"Armature" is the physical component of the device: the belt, hat, armband, etc; distinct from the electronics.

Mailing List
We have created a cyborg mailing list on the Noisebridge server. Please join us!

Component Sourcing
Here are pages for discussing:

sensors
detect a property of the world

displays
communicate it to the body/mind
armatures
hold the above together and in the proper place on the body

They also include a list of all known/speculated types of each.

Sensor and Display API
*What might that mean?
**A standard protocol that can:
**#encompass most sensory data of the sort we are interested in researching
**#allow for presentation of any those data through any of a wide variety of modalities

*Why?
**Plug-and-play(ish) interoperability of sensors and displays. Build three sensors and three displays, and we have 9 possible combinations, und so weiter.
**Simplify development by separating sensing and presentation design/tasks.

*How?
**On the data sensing end:
**#Identify a primary set of interesting stimuli, consider various encodings thereof.
**#Abstract away from the physical phenomena the stimuli represent and look instead at common patterns in the data streams.
**#???
**On the data display end:
**#Identify and prototype a number of display methods.
**#For each method think of:
**#*What modulations of the signal are possible; intensity, spacing, direction, timing...? Based on that, what is the theoretical bandwidth of that method?
**#*How sensitive is the average person there? How much of the signal can the brain interpret meaningfully (too much noise vs. too weak of a signal)? Based on that, what is the <em>practical</em> bandwidth that we might expect?

This analog EEG amplifier was donated to Noisebridge a couple of years ago. It is a medical-grade amp, probably used for clinical monitoring purposes. Since we've currently only tested the output by looking at noise through the fairly rudimentary electrodes shown, we don't have a good idea, at present, of the signal quality, but it should be in reasonably good shape. Electrodes die quickly in EEG and amps usually live substantially longer, but it's definitely possible that some of the channels will have artifacts or noise issues. Probably it will still amplify EEG signal sufficiently well to serve as an actuator for other projects.

Post to the neuro mailing list if you want to get involved.

Goals and Milestones
The current working goal is to accomplish analog to digital conversion of the amp's output with a reasonably consistent sampling rate, and to output this to USB. Then we should get one of the NB desktops set up with software to process and interpret the signal in real time so it can be used as an actuator. The test task will be using some EEG signal (probably beta power) to buzz open the door to noisebridge. The API for the door is already in place. Here are some steps along the way.

#Verify that amp outputs signal and that this signal is correctly modulated by the hardware controls.
#*Check signal amplification levels and multipliers
#*Check high and low pass filters
#*Connect a human with properly gelled electrodes and check to make sure blink artifacts are clearly visible in the amp signal.
#**We could do this with the single metal electrodes you see in the amp image. They are attached directly to bare skin with medical tape and can be filled with electrode gel using a blunt syringe. We have some at Noisebridge, I will check the diameter and make sure that's written here so we can easily buy more. --Hurtstotouchfire 02:51, 12 May 2012 (UTC)
#*Connect a human with properly gelled electrodes and check to make sure basic EEG signal comes through.
#**This can in theory be done with the single metal electrodes if used on the forehead.
#**It would be best to test this with the cap.
#**Alpha power would be a good first test
#**We could also test the photic stimulator and do some SSVEP. I will try to remember to photograph the photic stimulator and add it to this page. --Hurtstotouchfire 02:51, 12 May 2012 (UTC)
#Build and program a microcontroller that correctly interprets and digitizes the analog signal output.
#*The analog signal consists of both positive and negative voltages and we need both.
#*There is a voltage range and accuracy requirement for this signal. We should determine what that is.
#Ensure that the ADC process includes a stable sampling rate.
#*I have been told this will require oscillators. Any specific proposals? --Hurtstotouchfire 01:48, 12 May 2012 (UTC)
#Pipe digital signal into real time EEG software.
#*Suggestions for software below. Must run on linux.

Volunteer your brain
We have a pretty decent passive 19 channel cap but unfortunately we bought a size small, so we should start taking a roll call on head circumferences. We need =<54 cm and preferably short hair (washing out electrode gel is not exactly fun).
*55cm, long hair. --Hurtstotouchfire

EEG Analysis & Processing
We can pull some ideas for this from the OpenEEG page.

ADC Conversion
Currently we have slapped an arduino on there and we're just sampling from the analog pins. Here's a Dropbox folder with the code and CSVs of time-stamped output values. I started setting up a [github repo] but I'm not using it yet. Soon I swear.

Here's the current code (AnalogRead2 sketch in the dropbox folder):

void setup()
{
Serial.begin(9600);
}

void loop()
{
unsigned long micro = micros();
int zero = analogRead(0);
int one = analogRead(1);
int two = analogRead(2);
String res = String(micro) + ",0," + String(zero) + "," + String(one) + ","+ String(two) + ",";
Serial.println(res);
delay(1);
}

And sample output:

40704624,0,0,0,0,
40724928,0,51,113,90,
40749472,0,0,42,7,
40770836,0,0,0,5,
40791128,0,59,114,85,
40815672,0,0,46,10,
40838080,0,0,0,0,
40858376,0,51,105,106,
40883972,0,0,0,12,
40905328,0,0,0,12,
...

I have graphed raw output (no timestamps) in the past and plotted it and it looked like the absolute value of a sine wave (we're looking for the 60hz line noise as a basic test) but now that I'm trying it again it looks more like the negative values are getting zeroed. I will parse and plot the timestamped data soon and post the results of that. --Hurtstotouchfire 02:51, 12 May 2012 (UTC)
Priors
Kurtis, Jake and I have spent some time with an arduino, sampling from the analog pins and outputting to CSV. The results of that are above, under ADC Conversion.

10 May 2012, Kelly & Nima
We hooked up the amp to an oscilloscope and just tried plugging in a couple electrodes and grounding and ungrounding them. We were able to get a nice line noise signal and verify that the signal multipliers do something. I was not impressed by the analog filters, though we forgot to test the 35 low pass when we had that nice sine wave going, and when we tested it the signal was much noisier. It is normal to get enormous noise and signal drift when you just have an electrode that you're waving around. The strongest signal at that point is line noise. I tried putting the electrode next to my eye ungelled but either it needs the gel or the oscilloscope is just bad at rendering low-frequency voltage shifts because we didn't see any obvious evidence of the blink dipole. Maybe Nima can add if he got anything done after I left. --Hurtstotouchfire 02:58, 12 May 2012 (UTC)

#*Connect a human with properly gelled electrodes and check to make sure basic EEG signal comes through.
#**Alpha power would be a good first test
#**We could also test the photic stimulator and do some SSVEP.
Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation
Wikipedia, bitches. For the record, the acronyms tDCS and TDCS are both in use in academia, and I think the former is stupid because they're just trying to be cool like iPhones and fMRI. The word transcranial is obviously abbreviated, and when we abbreviate words in an acronym, we capitalize them. So if you move this page to tDCS, I will move it back. --Hurtstotouchfire 01:14, 12 May 2012 (UTC)
Anecdotes
*link to reddit thread here.

Spec
The basic circuit for TDCS is ridiculously simple. We are creating a 2ma DC current and running it through 2 inch square or round electrodes that are then connected to the human body. There are various configurations that can be used to place the pads, but the most common is placing the active electrode over the area of the skull corresponding to the brain region to be effected and the other electrode, called the return electrode, is placed on the opposite shoulder. Using the anode, or positive electrode, over the brain will stimulate the target region. The cathode, or negative electrode, will retard the brain region. A standard simulation time in most research is 20 minute sessions. The effect, depending on the type of stimulation and region seems to last up to an hour after the stimulation is removed. Again, depending on the type and location of the stimulation, repeated exposure daily for up to 9 sessions can cause the effects to persist for 30 days or longer in depression studies.

The simplest working circuit for this is a pair of 9v batteries in series, an LM334 current limiter and a fixed resistor across the LM334 reference and output to set the 2ma limit. A better circuit involves replacing the fixed resistor with a 200 ohm pot and adding an ammeter anywhere in series. One of the better designs of this nature is located here. Although the fuse in the circuit is of unlikely utility in reality.

A fairly simple, slightly unsafe and highly voltage limited arduino project that is somewhat clever is located here.

(need to add a long discussion about electrodes here, since there is more complexity in the electrodes than the circuit itself)

The Yashica Samurai X3.0 was donated by Mike Kahn. It's a half-frame 35mm camera

Description
"(1988) The Samurai X3.0 was the first model of a series of ergonomic (built-to-fit-the-hand for one-hand operation), half-frame, "bridge" SLRs that Yashica manufactured beginning in 1988. It is a true SLR camera which makes it stand out from many point-and-shoot cameras, as does its half-frame format. The zoom covers a useful range -- 25-75mm in half-frame, which gives an image size approximately the same as a 35-105mm zoom in full-frame. The lens is threaded for a standard 49mm filter, and gives effective f-stops from f3.5 at wide angle to f4.3 at telephoto. The viewfinder has an adjustable diopter to fit sharpness to the user's vision. Shutter speeds range from 2 sec. to 1/500 sec. The shutter speeds and aperture are automatically set by the camera, and there are no manual settings. But there is a built-in flash which can be turned off, turned on, or left to operate in various automatic modes. An addition, a built-in hot-shoe allows for the use of more powerful flash units. The exposure, film advance and focusing are strictly automatic. The standard model is black, but the control buttons came in different colors, such as red, grey and green. Various accessories were available, such as wide and tele lens converters, cases, straps, etc. Uses one CR5 battery. There are several "sub-models". The most common is the left-handed version. There was also a clear, fully functioning model for demo purposes. Last, but not least was the Grand Prix 88, often called the gold version -- but it just has a gold shutter release and lens cap."
Meeting 2012-02-09
So social engineering this evening concentrated on trying to define the problem
we've been discussing on nb-discuss these past few aeons, listed the
challenges, listed the aspects of Noisebridge we wanted to preserve, and then
went through the classes of proposed solutions, and how much we liked them.

What was the winner? The proposal we liked the most was putting into place a
keycode system (probably Kelly's hot-tub matrix), but not losing the key and
the buzzer for now -- and indeed a general encouragement to create as many
interesting ways of getting into the place as possible. Once we see how those
go as a temporary plan and see what the uptake is, the goal would be to turn
off the buzzer, but that would only be after more discussion and
experimentation.

I'll pass over to Kelly who I think is going to lead this as a spun-off project.

I'm not around for soceng next week, so feel free to use that meeting for this,
though I think it's big enough to spin out on its own.

The problem space
We seem to be worried about:

* Crazy people who come up and want to shoot everyone
* Burglars with swag bags
* Increased entropy in general (messiness, slacking instead of hacking)
* The public image of Noisebridge as not safe and a bit skeevy
* Some sort of uncool disaster

Challenges to any solution

* We are structure minimalists
* No clear dividing line between good crazy and bad crazy
* "Noisebridge is self-trolling and games ours own solutions"
* Hard to disseminate knowledge
* Hard to to enforce rules

Proposed solutions
(Pluses and minuses are strawpoll votes, D = doacratically doable, C = would require consensus in meeting)

D Improving self-policing through education ++++--

(ie having more direct explanation and role-playing of throwing people out, to get over our natural reticence to do so)

C A blanket access fee ++------

(ie $10 to get in the place)

D Always locking the top door ++-

(people seemed to think this was okay in combination with something else)

D Access code as supplementary system ++++++++-

(Kelly's system was discussed in detail, but this applied to any access system.)

C Access code as only system ++------

(We really didn't want to depend on a high-tech system. Wanted the keys to stay)

C Cutting the buzzer +++----

(Maybe in the future, once another access system had emerged.)

C Closing down at night ++----

(That's to say, NB ends at 11PM say)

C Members only at night ++++-

C Cellphone entry only +----

(Ie some sort of phone-door-opening triangle)

D Temporary versions of all above +++++

(Lots of support for trying stuff out, seeing what sticks)

D Concentrating on individual +++++

(Some support for working on preventing certain people, rather than just raising bar on access)

C Greylists/Blacklists ++++

Keycode System Features
*Numberpad on front door
*Database of codes... on pony? With notes? Probably we need a basic schema for what info we do and don't want to log.
**Door usage logged by keycode
**keycodes not formally associated with individuals
***how to distribute without leaving electronic records associating code with individual?
**member keycodes differentiable in some way
*Method of keycode generation?
*Method of keycode disabling?
**presumably not a feature needed immediately.

General Access Proposals
Right now this is an outline to determine what we do and don't want an access control system to do. Just trying to keep up the excellence. Please comment if you would like to do or block. Extensive discussion should go on the mailing list.

*Numberpad entry of some sort on front door with viral distribution of codes and the ability to kill codes that co-occur with problems in the space.
*<strike>Remove buzzer entirely</strike>
**At present, this is broadly opposed. Reconsider when keycode access is in place.
*Periscope for checking who is at door
**Jake is implementing this.
*<strike>Members only hours</strike>
**Rachel or Hurtstotouchfire would block

Overview
Hooray! We're so glad you want to visit. Noisebridge is a space open to pretty much anyone! We welcome anybody that likes to tinker and hack on things, and are generally nice. On average we don't appreciate people looking for a half way house to sleep in, steal things, or looking for free beer and people to annoy. Read here for more Visitor_advice on our culture and some suggestions on how to interface with it.

Noisebridge is located on the 3rd floor of 2169 Mission. There is a staircase up and an accessible elevator as well. The elevator can be a little persnickety but it has a bell that rings up into the space for assistance if needed. More Accessibility info available as well. Read on for ways to get into the building.

You can also check out some more info on transit and Getting_Here.

How Do I Get Into 2169 Mission?
If you've never been to the space before, simply press the door bell on the right of the gate labeled "Noisebridge" with tiny text. If there's someone in the space who feels like giving a tour (most of the time, except for late at night and early morning) they will buzz you in.

Otherwise, there are physical and electronic keys that can be used to access the space, including phone Apps. Read on.

How to buzz the gate
To open the door through the local Noisebridge network at 2169 Mission street (not accessible through the internets):

Keycode Access
The Keycode Access system, AKA The Hot Tub system (after Essex) is a proposed new way to buzz open the gate. Your help and input are both appreciated.

Use Gatebot
See Gatebot for the week's access code.

Awesome way from the outside the space
# (first) Get inside Noisebridge.
# Find a functional touch panel.
# Tap the "key" icon.
# Read instructions provided and note down the key for this week.
# Point your phone's browser to the URL listed.
# Bookmark the URL.
# When you want to open the gate, use the bookmark.
# Return to Noisebridge once a week to get the updated key.

(Please do not edit this page without a consensus decision, it's the official process that has been agreed on by consensus. To change it, bring up your desired changes at a meeting.)

Becoming a Member of Noisebridge
* Fill out top third of the application form that can be downloaded here and can be found in the membership binder at the space.
* Put your completed application form in the binder at the space.
* Persuade two current Noisebridge members to sponsor your application by signing your application form.
* Every meeting, there is a standing agenda item to read all the applications in the binder. You do not have to be present when your application is read.
* Once your application has been read out at four meetings, and you have obtained two sponsors, you are up for approval.
* During that meeting you may request that Noisebridge consents to have you become a member, but you may put this off until the next meeting (or the next &c.). If you are unable to attend meetings, another member may proxy your request.
* During the meeting at which you request that Noisebridge consents to have you become a member, those present may ask you (or your proxy) questions.
* After those present are finished asking questions, you are asked to leave the room, and your application is discussed without you present. The meeting may then choose to agree to have you become a member of Noisebridge.
* Once Noisebridge has agreed to have you become a member, you pay the treasurer your dues, and give the secretary your application form.
* Until you pay the treasurer your dues, you are not a member of Noisebridge. If you have not arranged to pay your dues within thirty days of Noisebridge agreeing to have you as a member, you do not become a member, and must go through the joining process again.

At any time, anyone can look in the binder at the names. If an existing member has any concerns with any of the applicants, they should take time during that month to try and resolve the problem. They may ask another member to be a proxy for them to either help resolve the problem (preferred) or to voice their objection at the approval meeting.

The membership form may be downloaded here. There are also copies at the space. The binder is located on the desk at the entrance, next to the donation bin. Note that these items might be relocated through the space over time.

Being a Member of Noisebridge
* Make sure that you keep the secretary and treasurer up to date with your current contact information. It's your responsibility to make sure that the secretary and treasurer have up-to date contact info. If you have exotic contact needs (require GPG-encrypted mail, need messages by carrier pigeon &c) you should make sure to arrange this with the secretary and treasurer .

* Pay your dues to the treasurer at or before the first of the month, every month. If you are unable to pay your dues, please consider searching for sponsorship, or asking the treasurer about starving hacker rates.

* Be excellent to everyone.

Leaving Noisebridge
* If a member wishes to leave Noisebridge, they must inform the treasurer and secretary. If that person wants to rejoin Noisebridge, they must go through the joining process again.

* Unless a member is on hiatus, after one month of not paying dues, the treasurer will attempt to contact the delinquent member to arrange for dues payment. If three months have passed since the not-on-hiatus member last paid their dues, and two months have passed since the treasurer attempted to contact them, and the member has not arranged with the treasurer to pay their dues, their membership shall expire. If that person wants to rejoin Noisebridge, they must go through the joining process again.

* To go 'on hiatus' you merely have to notify the treasurer and secretary. You then don't pay dues, and are not able to block a consensus item. When you want to come back again (i.e. you got the job or returned to the country) you simply start paying dues again.

* To stop being a member you notify the treasurer and secretary. This is different from going on hiatus in that if you want to come back you have to go through the joining process again.

* Unless a member is on hiatus, after one one month of not paying dues, the treasurer will attempt to contact the delinquent member to arrange for dues payment.

* After a member has been on hiatus for six months, and the date at which they intended to return has passed, the treasurer will attempt to contact them to confirm that they still wish to be on hiatus. Three months after the treasurer attempts to contact them, their membership shall expire. If that person wants to rejoin Noisebridge, they must go through the joining process again.

Hiatus
* Noisebridge allows members to go on 'hiatus' if they wish to temporarily suspend their membership when they will not be involved in Noisebridge for an extended period, such as travelling.

* Hiatus is not intended for members who will be using the space, but are unable to pay their dues. If you are unable to pay your dues, please consider searching for sponsorship, or asking the treasurer about starving hacker rates.

* Members on hiatus are not obliged to pay dues and they are not able to block consensus items.

* If a member wishes to go on hiatus they must notify the treasurer and secretary , stating that they wish to go on hiatus and informing them of the reason for the hiatus and the time at which they intend to return. If a member going on hiatus will not have regular internet acces or has specific communication needs during their hiatus period, it is their responsibility to arrange this with the treasurer and secretary .

* A member may extend their term of hiatus at any time by contacting the treasurer and secretary .

Hurtstotouchfire: adding announce list

<h2>Overview</h2>
<p>We're happy to host teaching and co-operative events at Noisebridge. There's no charge, though please consult and respect the many others working in the space. Here are some suggested guidelines for hosting an event at Noisebridge, whether its a short workshop, a regular hackathon, or a bigger unconference-style event.</p>

<h2>Our Physical Space</h2>
<h3>Event-Hosting Areas</h3>
<p>Noisebridge has three primary areas within our physical space for hosting an event, consisting of two classrooms and a large open conference area.</p>

<h3>Common Areas</h3>
<p>All events at our space may make use of our kitchen space and two bathrooms. Our kitchen contains a large counterspace. Our bathrooms are generally clean.</p>

<h3>Accessibility</h3>
<p>Please visit our Accessibility page for a full description of how Noisebridge makes our physical space accessible to everybody.</p>

<h2>General Guidelines</h2>
<ul>
<li>It's recommended that involve at least one Noisebridge member as part of your planning to see that you avoid common pitfalls when working with Noisebridge. Ask around the space for a member, or ask on the discuss mailinglist. You don't have to be a member to start an event though!</li>
<li>Publicize the event via the 8PM Tuesday meeting, this Wiki, the Noisebridge discussion and announcement mailing lists, google calendar (to gain administrative access to the calendar, post to the discuss mailinglist and someone will add you), and the Noisebridge IRC channel, with enough lead time that the community can respond and give feedback.</li>
<li>Be aware of the existing ongoing events and try to work around them, even if they're not in your part of the space. Some events like 5MOF and work in the shop can be noisy!</li>
<li>Have a plan for setting up the space.</li>
<li>Have a plan for cleaning up after yourself (and follow it).</li>
<li>Consider asking participants for a monetary donation to Noisebridge during your event. We have a recommended one minute preamble for event organizers to say at the beginning of their meetings. It explains how we work, and how your visitors can help keep Noisebridge going.</li>
Pick a moderator, and a note-taker. The note-taker should:

* write notes in this page, put them back up online when they're done,
* edit the Current Consensus Items if anything is decided to be up for consensus next week (stuff raised for consensus this week should be publicised for a final decision next week)
* edit the Consensus Items History if anything was consensed or failed to consense this week.
* tell treasurer@noisebridge.net and secretary@noisebridge.net if there are new members.

Moderator should:
* make sure everyone gets a chance to speak
* speak minimally themselves
* keep the meeting moving! you're in charge of summarising the consensus, and/or suggesting things that need to be done!
