My name's Uriah or Demmy on IRC.

I've been coming to the space for a bit over a year and a half now with irregular frequency. I started by coming to Circuit Hacking Mondays and then from there came to a bunch of 5MoF and for awhile took it upon myself to be the person who tried to keep the kitchen clean when I was around.

I'm attending the introductory PyClass and the advanced PyClass. I'm also taking the Front-end Web Development class, too.

I am a recent transplant to the Bay from Chicago. My background is in writing, activism and social practice art. I write for the Ella Baker Center in Oakland and am greatly invested in activism surrounding civil rights, racial and gender inequality, et cetera. I do some personal chef work as a part of my activism and art practice dealing with inequalities surrounding access to food and the ways in which that is systemically decided. I'm super interested in the ways in which food helps shape culture and vice versa.

I'm currently teaching myself Python and computer science as well as front-end development. I'm looking for opportunities involving that. Looking to network, make things that help people and generally make ~cool thangs~.

I've visited Noisebridge on Mondays-Fridays off-and-on for ~1.5 years now, including the relatively offpeak hours between 10am-6pm on these days.

As I write this, am currently involved with 1a) Bash-scripting 1b) Carefully testing ATAx hdd's and optical drives 2) Figuring out how to install, use and dual-boot Slackware 14.1 and Arch on a few PCs (too low HW for VMs though, darn dat!) 3) Toying around and optimizing my Raspberry Pi which has Raspbian currently installed on it...... too bad that Noisebridge doesn't seem to have a working and available in-house LCD monitor that I could use with the RPi :-\

I've lived in the Mission for the past 3 years and have been dropping into Noisebridge every few months, since then.

I'm not a regular, but when I duck in, I love every minute I spend here. I was once part of a Tuesday meeting, too:

Hi, my name is Mike, and I'm interested in helping people learn about Machine Learning and more generally, Mathematics. My background is Computational Neuroscience, Machine Learning, and Software Development.

I started coming to Noisebridge in 2010 and helped revive the [[Machine Learning|Machine_Learning]] group.

From 2010-2012 I helped keep the group organized, giving talks and encouraging people to come in and speak about their work.

As of November 2013 we are restarting the ML group. Although I feel comfortable teaching advanced topics, my main focus will be to provide a solid basis in the relevant math and programming required to do data analysis, for people new to ML from a variety of educational backgrounds.

I strongly support Noisebridge's [[Anti-Harassment_Policy|anti-harassment policy]]. Having worked in Science and Technology for over a decade, I'm aware of gender and race disparities that plague the fields. I hope that there are things I can do to help foster a fun, inclusive educational environment, and am interested and open to ideas and suggestions on how to do that.

I like learning things so Noisebridge is much better than television or watching cat videos.

I live close by, so its a convenient spot.

I've got my four sponsors for Associate Membership. Two sponsors had a technical issue that their endorsements came through an IP address, rather than while logged into the wiki. These endorsements were silently erased, (which I think is poor procedure as I explained fully in an email.)

I asked about 15 people to sponsor me. Mostly people couldn't sponsor because they were not themselves members, and a couple said the would, and it didn't happen. Sometimes the sponsorship process seemed like a pain, but I'm glad for it. It got me to introduce myself to more people, and that's a good thing.

== Getting more people jiggy with open source projects ==

Are you a programmer or other tech enthusiast looking to contribute to an open source project for the first time? Do you have a free/open source software project you want to find contributors to?

On Monday 8 PM, we'll be in the Noisebridge common space talking about our http://openhatch.org/ website and how it can help.

We'll show you how you can find the first bug you'll close in open source. You can browse by project, programming language, the kind of help needed (like just "documentation"), or how tough the bug is (we index about 1500 "bitesized" bugs). It's surprisingly easy -- if you can code Python, you'll probably find there's a bug in Python itself that you can tackle.

There are bitesize bugs in projects large and small, like the Python language, Firefox, Mercurial, OpenSolaris, MediaWiki, and many others.

For current contributors, we'll show you how you can get your project listed and reach out to people who might be interested in helping. Plus I think you'll enjoy helping newcomers find their way.

* 8 PM: We'll have a brief meet and greet
* 8:15: We'll talk about the website and what it does
* 8:30 onwards: Freeform questions & answers while you find a project that can use your help and hack on it!
