==Overview==
The Electronics Lab is located on the south wall of 2169, straight ahead as you enter the space. It has soldering irons, racks of components, oscilloscopes, multimeters and other electronics related stuff.

There is a [https://www.noi[[File:Paws.jpg]]sebridge.net/wiki/Circuit_Hacking_Monday Circuit Hacking] event every Monday 7pm till late where you can come to learn how to solder or work on your project with expert help available. Or show up any other time to avoid the rush and work on your own!
[[File:Paws.jpg]]
Awesome equipment that noisebridge has:
* [http://www.testequipmentdepot.com/weller/solder/wmrs.htm Weller WMRS] surface mount soldering iron - [http://www.testequipmentdepot.com/weller/tips/rttips.htm super small tips]
* Hot air rework station - [http://www.electro-tech-online.com/general-electronics-chat/88645-aoyue-2702a-cheap-rework-station.html Aoyue Int 2702A+]
* Dozens of cheap soldering irons & holders (for circuit hacking)
* Multimeters - [http://www.made-in-china.com/showroom/victor001/product-detailptYnLMEOJJCd/China-Digital-Multimeter-VC97-.html Vichy VC97] - auto ranging, but slow. There are two more older multimeters as well, but neither is auto ranging.
* Oscilloscopes - [http://www2.tek.com/cmswpt/madetails.lotr?ct=MA&cs=mur&ci=15530&lc=EN Tektronix 2235] 100MHz; [http://www.testequipmentdepot.com/ezdigital/os5020.htm EZ Oscilloscope OS-5020] 20MHz; [http://nebula.deanza.edu:16080/~norona/3500_oscilloscope.html JDR Instruments Model 3500] 35MHz.  All two-channel. [[Oscillocope introduction]] (material from Tektronix)
* logic analyzer - Tektronix 1241
* frequency generator - Leader LFG 1300S
* more stuff like Textronix 5A18N Dual Trace Ampl (?), various other old things (at least two ancient o-scopes, an ancient vacuum tube volt meter)
* Good power supplies - BK Precision 1621A is 0-18V 5Amps; Thandor TS1542S is 0-15V 4Amps; both are two channel.
* Dozens of labeled bins of components - resistors, caps, diodes, LEDs, fuses, connectors, various chips (please inventory fixme).
* Extensive collection of small tools - tiny screw drivers, wire cutters, wire strippers, tweezers, solder suckers, solder wick, hot air guns, glue guns, etc.
* Shrink wrap, breadboards, solderless breadboards, pre-stripped jumper wires, headers, etc.
* Massive supply of wires - almost any gage in any color available, both stranded and solid core.
* Huge bins of AC power cords, wall warts, ethernet cables, hackable old electronic items like laptops, etc.
]

==Inventory==
* [http://parts.noisebridge.net parts.noisebridge.net] a complete database of the Noisebridge electronic component bins! This is read-only from outside of the LAN. A work in progress, please contribute when you are at Noisebridge.
= Library: What's the point? =

'''There's already a public library!'''

Since there's a public library, we're going to focus on books that fill the needs of people using the space right now.

'''Anyone can access what they want over the internet almost all the time!'''

If electronic books are already accessible, we can focus on the people who would still prefer to use a paper copy.

'''A more refined goal:'''

The mission of the library is to serve technical or hacker-y literature to people in Noisebridge right now.

''' How do we get there? Quantify, Expand, Prune! '''

*First: Know what books we have. (done)
*Second: Create a process to acquire books that fill the library's mission. (we need a lot)
*Third: Prune our shelves a bit. Bring the average usefulness up. (needs work)

= What can I do? =

Lots of help is needed! There are 3 major things to do:

* '''Initiative 1''': Improve the collection: Collect sets of topic books from experts and source these books
* '''Initiative 2''': Add "topic"-based color on spine labelling system to library
* '''Initiative 3''': Improve [http://library.noisebridge.net] [https://github.com/robbintt/library-org]

== Things To Do ==

''' Initiative 1: Source New Books '''
* Are you really good at something or reasonably well read? Make us a list of must-have books!
* Add themed lists here: [[https://noisebridge.net/wiki/Resources/Library#Books_We_Want]]
* You can help acquire books by sourcing books on these lists!
* Don't subtract them from the lists, we can make a system for checking them off
* Who will give us great books? Anyone. Mailing list?

''' Initiative 2:  Label by topic! '''
* Label all books already in library-org with subject "color" on the spine.
* Add: moveable magnetic labels you can slide paper into

''' Initiative 3: Improve library-org '''
* library-org is a Flask app
* Current capabilities: receive new books, substring search, add location to each book, register new locations.

= Other Hackerspaces with Libraries =
* [https://garoa.net.br/wiki/Biblioteca Garoa Hacker Clube] Koha

= Bookshelf Directory =

You can find where various categories of books are found by checking out the visual directories posted on the two main shelves.

The files for these directories with editable form fields:

[[Media:Bookshelf-left.pdf]]

[[Media:Bookshelf-right.pdf]]

= Hacking the bookshelves =

The bookshelves have LEDs that operate on the flaschen-taschen protocol. Learn more [https://noisebridge.net/wiki/Bookshelves here].

== How many books do we have right now? ==

A book barcode scannning effort was performed in October-December 2015 using [https://github.com/robbintt/noisebridge_bookscanner noisebridge-bookscanner].

1657 books have been ingested into library-org using [https://openlibrary.org/ Open Library]

IMPORTANT: If you do any of the work below, be sure to update the list to remove the ones you added.
</nowiki>

One way to solve these is to google the UPC individually and find the book it corresponds to. At least one of the books in here is available this way. Try to find out which one!!

'''Here is a list of ISBNs that aren't in openlibrary or library-org.''' The workflow to add these is to find them on amazon, type the data into OpenLibrary, then import the OLID into library-org.

= Latest News =

[[File:Sewing.jpg|300px|right]]

*For the latest announcements, please subscribe to the email list here: https://www.noisebridge.net/mailman/listinfo/sewing/

= Overview =

We have five mostly functional se[[File:Paws.jpg]]wing machines:

Industrial style machines:
* Single Needle Lock Stitch (Juki DDL 227)
*Straight Stitch Walking Foot (Juki LU-563)
*Five-thread Overlock Serger (Juki MO-2416)

Home-style machines:
*Brother SE400 Combination Computerized Sewing and 4x4 Embroidery Machine
*130-Stitch Computerized Sewing and Quilting (Brother XR1355)

We also have these sewing amenities:
* Giant ass table with cutting mat surface (50 inches x ? inches )

* Irons and Ironing board

* Big donation bins of extra thread and fabric you can use for projects

* lots of odds and ends

* 2 dress forms

- Full length mirror

= Tips =
* Please DO NOT unthread the sewing machines unless you must. (e.g. to remove a spool of thread, simply cut it close to the spool so that the next person can simply tie a knot with the next thread and pull it all the way through to the needle). This is most important for the serger.

* Needles, bobbins, and other parts are located in labeled drawers underneath the pegboard (PLEASE KEEP IT ORGANIZED). Also check the drawers attached to each sewing machine table.
** The closest place to get parts is at Apparel City, on Howard between 11th & 12th.
** Needles may differ between machines and come in sizes (10, 12, 14, 16, etc.). The higher numbers are heavier gauge needles suitable for thicker fabrics. Leather needles have a tiny blade at the tip. Don't use a leather needle for other fabrics, though, it will cut the threads rather than squeezing between them, leaving holes that may start rips.
**Needles for the straight stitch machines must be inserted with the scarf facing right. Please check the respective manuals.

* If you've never operated a sewing machine before, ask some people at Noisebridge (Kyle or Ely). Sewing machines are not self-explanatory and this page does assume a certain amount of prior general knowledge.
**Read the manual and do some research online.
**Printed manuals for the two Juki Machines and the Thompson are located in a grey binder on the bookshelf

*Use scraps for testing to determine thread tension and sewing speed.

==Winding a Bobbin==
*Juki DDL-227 & Juki LU-563
**To wind a bobbin, place the empty bobbin on the horizontal spindle to the right of the machine body (near the hand wheel). Run a second thread through the upper holder, down to the tensioner at the back of the right side of the machine, in line with the spindle. Thread the end through one of the holes in the bobbin side, from the inside to the outside. Press the lever to push the spindle down in contact with the sewing machine belt. While holding the thread end so it doesn't just whip out of the bobbin, press the pedal to run a couple of inches (if there were fabric in the machine). Soon enough you can let go of the thread end as it will have been caught by windings on top of it. If you are doing a lot of sewing, you can start a new bobbin before the current one is empty, and let it wind up as you sew. When the bobbin is full, the lever will automatically snap out away from the belt and stop winding thread.

== Repairing a Sewing Machine ==
* If a sewing machine is actually broken and non functional, as opposed to just you can't figure out how to make it work, please call Billy from Apparel City at 415-816-8645 (mobile) and schedule an appointment for him to come fix it.
** He usually charges around $80 per hour, plus parts.
** Email the [https://www.noisebridge.net/mailman/listinfo/sewing/|sewing list] and people will chip in to cover this. If you can't manage this process, email the sewing list and find someone else who can. Also, please put a note on the machine so people know what is going on with it.
== High Speed Lock stitch (Juki DDL 227) ==

*[[Juki Maintenance Notes]] - Replacing the counter knife, needle bar, thread guides, etc.
These were originally written for our old DDL-5550-6 machine but the 227 is very similar.

=== Overview ===
* General fabrics, light-weight materials and medium weight materials.
** '''Not for leather or book binding.''' Please use the right tool for the job.
* Clutch motor (fast!)
*Recommended thread size of Tex-40 in the DDL

== Straight Stitch Walking Foot (Juki LU-563) ==

*This is a high tension machine. You must press the knee lifter to pull thread through. This will release the tension.
**Conversely, DO NOT run into the knee lifter at all while sewing. This will release the tension and your stitches will be too loose.
*Pressing back or letting go of the pedal will engage the brake. Slightly depress the pedal to release the brake. You must do this to use the hand wheel

=== Overview ===
* Medium weight and heavy weight materials, leather and vinyl
** Not for light-weight materials!
* Clutch Motor
** This machine is VERY fast
*Horizontal Bobbin
*Recommended thread size Tex-70 in the walking foot

== Five-thread Overlock Serger (Juki MO-2416) ==

*Pulling fabric out of the machine may cause thread breaks. It is best to feed thread with the pedal when removing your workpiece.
*DO NOT UNTHREAD THE SERGER. It takes about 30 minutes and a lot of patience to thread this machine. However, if you are an experience user of industrial sergers you will be able to thread this machine quickly. Using tweezers helps. Also, using the correct thread for the correct machine is essential. Good Luck and happy sewing.

=== Overview ===
This machine is not made for knits. It is made for wovens. It is a five spool. It has a clutch motor and this is the reason that it goes so very rapidly. The overlock sews to prevent fray. However, the machine make a chain stitch at the same time. For example, if you were to look inside of your jeans, you can observe these methods. A chain stitch and overlock. This type of machines is used for medium weight fabric.

*This machine has a knife placed to cut the fabric as you sew, and it *is possible* to cut your finger badly on this knife if you are not careful. BE CAREFUL. This machine also can go extremely, sometimes startlingly, fast.
== Brother SE400 Embroidery Machine ==
This machine is awesome, and can do many different stitches as well as CNC embroidery.
It's usually stored on the wall of the sewing area. It looks like a home sewing machine but is as expensive as an industrial one and is many people's favorite machine.

== 130-Stitch Computerized Sewing and Quilting (Brother XR1355) ==

*This machine is stored away in one of the sewing area cubbies.

=== Overview ===
*This machine does 130 different stitches including lots of cool decorative flowers and patterns. It is also the only machine that can do a zig-zag stitch.
'''A note regarding cutting metal in stationary tools:'''

The shavings that come off the metal piece being cut are HOT!

In a stationary tool that has been used on wood, there is typically a nice big thick bed of sawdust inside the tool. When the metal shavings fall into this bed of sawdust, an awesome smoldery fire can build up sight unseen inside of the tool. Yay!

When possible it is best to have two separate dedicated tools... and/or if one is going to be transfered over into metal service the inside should be vacuumed out first, and/or the operator should check inside the machine when they are done.

Here is an updated drawing of the Noisebridge space as of 2017-05-24. This is a minor update based on measurements done from 01/17/2013 to 01/20/2013. I have included a PDF for quick plotting, scaled for 36x24 paper and the original CAD f[[File:Paws.jpg]]ile for future updates. I have been careful in my measuring but the walls of the space are not straight. Always verify measurements on site if tolerances for new projects are going to be tight.
==Overview==
We're happy to host teaching and co-operative events at Noisebridge. There's no charge, though please consult and respect the many others working in the space. Here are some suggested guidelines for hosting an event at Noisebridge, whether its a short workshop, a regular hackathon, or a bigger unconference-style event.

==Our Physical Space==
===Event-Hosting Areas===
Noisebridge has three primary areas within our physical space for hosting an event, consisting of two classrooms (Turing and Church) and a large open conference area (the Hackitorium).

===Accessibility===
Please visit our [[Accessibility]] page for a full description of how Noisebridge makes our physical space accessible to everybody.

Temporary access code for the gate can be set up for your participants.

==General Guidelines==
====Get members involved====
'''You don't have to be a member to start an event.''' It's recommended to involve at least one Noisebridge member as part of your planning to avoid common pitfalls when working with Noisebridge. Ask around the space for a member, or ask on the discuss [[mailinglist]].

====Communicate the event to the group====
'''Publicize the event to the users of Noisebridge''' via the 8PM Tuesday meeting, this [[Category:Events|wiki]], the [[mailinglist|Noisebridge discussion and announcement mailing lists]], and the [[IRC|Noisebridge IRC channel]], with enough lead time that the community can respond and give feedback. See also, [[Mailinglist/Announce_guidelines]] for help on writing a good announcement mail!

Be aware of the existing ongoing events and try to work around them, even if they're not in your part of the space. Some events like 5MOF and work in the shop can be noisy! Also events might be happening that aren't listed anywhere that may create annoying room scheduling issues.

====Setup and clean up====

'''Leave the space cleaner than you found it.''' Have a plan for setting up the space and have a plan for cleaning up after yourself (and follow it). Novice tip: At the end of the event or class, ask people who participated to help clean up the space used.
d

====Donations and fees====
'''Consider asking participants for a monetary donation to Noisebridge during your event.''' We have a recommended [[Preamble | one minute preamble]] for event organizers to say at the beginning of their meetings. It explains how we work, and how your visitors can help keep Noisebridge going.

Noisebridge prides itself in being an open space to all that are excellent. '''Please keep in mind that we generally don't host classes or events that have a participation or class fee.''' Charging for materials or kits is acceptable (such as buying a blinking LED kit to work on during [[Circuit Hacking Mondays]]), but shouldn't be required to join in the class or event.

====No age restrictions====
'''Noisebridge is an all ages space''', if your class or event has an age requirement, please bring it up at a Tuesday meeting or on our discussion mailing list before proceeding.

==Event Listing==
After taking all of the above into consideration, and feeling like Noisebridge is the right spot for your event, listing it on our events page would be great! Here are some steps to do so...

# Create an individual page for your event. Include contact info for the organizer(s), date/time, location (if at Noisebridge, where in the space), and a pretty good description of what the event is. The important bit is contact info, helps when we're cleaning up the events list.
# Include the code <tt><nowiki>[[Category:Events]]</nowiki></tt> at the bottom of the page.
# Go to the [[:Category:Events|Events]] page and add in your event to the correct spot. We use 24 hour time.
# The events listed on our [[Noisebridge|Main Page]] are actually pulled from the [[:Category:Events|Events]] page. So no need to add it again.
# If you have an event that happens once, or a reoccurring event that doesn't occur anymore, please remove it from the [[:Category:Events|Events]] page after you're done.

==Mitch's suggestion on how to do an event at Noisebridge==
We don't have a formal procedure for scheduling at Noisebridge.

But here's how I suggest doing it:
* First, take a look at the info on this page (above), where there's a bunch of good info.
* Look on the [[Noisebridge|Noisebridge]] website, and near the top, check out the '''Events and Classes''' section (both ''Upcoming Events'' and ''Recurring Events''), and find a time where Noisebridge can accommodate the crowd you're expecting.
* Send an email to the '''Noisebridge-Discussion''' list, and let folks know that you want to give your event. and when, and ask if there's interest, and ask if there is any conflict of space/time. (You'll need to subscribe: [[Mailinglist|Mailing List page]] -- but please know there are trolls there -- please do not feed the trolls.)
* If you get any positive feedback, then there that is indication enough that there people will show up (way more than give you feedback on the email list).
* Create a wiki page for your event on the Noisebridge website (which is entirely a wiki).
* Add the event to the ''Upcoming Events'' section, including the link to your event wiki page. Then post to the '''Noisebridge-Announce''' list (you'll need to subscribe -- [[Mailinglist|Maling List page]] -- and someone will approve your post -- this is the ''only'' thing at Noisebridge which is moderated).
* Publicize the hell out of the event to let people know it's happening!
* One week before, post to both the Discussion and Announce lists. And then you can post to both lists again the day before to remind people (and to catch last-minute stragglers).

==Procedural Checklist for Larger / More Impactful Events==

Some events are bigger than others.

If you are expecting more than (say) 20 people at your event, you may find the [[ProceduralEventChecklist|Procedural Event Checklist]] useful for thinking through mundane but important aspects of planning such as managing the cultural impact of the event on [[Noisebridge|Noisebridge]] at large and making sure there's enough toilet paper in the bathrooms.

Check out the [[ProceduralEventChecklist|Procedural Event Checklist page]]. (And don't get too overwhelmed; while quite long, it's meant to *help* you plan aspects of your butt that you may not have thought of.)
Cool projects, questions you'd like answered, news of interest, stuff you'd like to donate, work/play you'd like help with. It can also get a little heated and in-jokey sometimes, but don't fear -- the space itself is friendly.
Activities at Noisebridge include hanging out, working on personal or group projects, and scheduled or improptu workshops and classes on a range of topics, from foreign languages to photography, lockpicking, woodworking, computer programming and mathematics.

====Some times are better than others====
We have many scheduled activities in the space, and many of us have day jobs. You can coordinate the time of your visit to ensure that you can find people to talk with (and especially [[Getting_In|to let you into the building]] in the first place!)

* Are you new? Wondering when to drop by? Come by any evening - you don't necessarily have to wait for a class, an event or a meeting. Any night there will generally be people hanging out, and you're welcome to just show up, to say "I'm new!" and then get a tour, or to just relax and work on your laptop until a conversation of interest comes up.
* If you're interested in particular activities, check out our schedule, posted on the [[Noisebridge|main page]] of this site.
* If you'd like to come during unstructured time and talk with lots of people, after hours are generally best.
* If you'd prefer a quieter environment, come earlier in the day.
* If you'd like to see the anarco-syndicalist factory of how a long-living hackspace is maintaining, tag along to our [[Meeting|Tuesday 8pm meeting]], where affairs are often '''excitingly''' hashed out.
* You're unlikely to find many people in the space before noon on most days.
* This is discussed in painful detail at [[Hours]]
* The people around you may not know you well, but they might love you a bit more if you fix a random thing. Even if its just cleaning plates of dishes, helping to organize the parts bins, or tidying an obviously dirty desk.

====Who's in charge?====

YOU ARE! (with the consent of the folks around you!) Noisebridge attempts to be as leaderless and as non-hierarchical and unruly as we can get. We encourage anyone in the space to be as responsible as anyone else. If you're a new visitor, that means the member or vouchsafed guest who you first meet is as good as anyone else to ask questions of.

====Our code of conduct====
Our [[Noisebridge_Vision#Tripartite_Pillars|chief guiding principle]] is to "be excellent to one another". Please respect the other people you meet at Noisebridge and the Noisebridge space itself.
We welcome visitors because we believe in our community and want to share the things we're working on with everyone. We also have [[community standards]].

====Other people's stuff====
Please try to be careful with the things you find at Noisebridge, and recognize that the things on shelves are other people's stuff.

====Not "child-safe"====
We have not limited what we like to explore or discuss according to anyone's notions of "appropriateness" for children. Thus, anyone entering the space can be exposed to ideas, concepts, language and items which some would consider "adult-themed". We also have some tools and materials that can be hazardous for children or adults if used improperly. Children are as welcome in the space as any other person - just be prepared for what they may encounter.

====Hostile network====
The network at Noisebridge - like any public network - should be regarded as potentially hostile. This means that you should assume that any unencrypted communications over the network could be (and most likely are) monitored by others. Examples of vulnerable communications include POP3/IMAP email clients, most web browsing, IRC/AIM and similar chat protocols that are often not encrypted. While no issues have come up to date, and our code of conduct opposes malicious monitoring of others, it is wise to be aware of the potential. Stick to using SSL or secure tunnels or VPNs for anything that uses a password or that you otherwise wouldn't want other people to read. If you don't know how to protect your communications with encryption, many people at Noisebridge would be glad to help you out! (It would be nice if someone would provide links to a decent guide here.)

=====Attempt at a Semi Decent Guide=====

The most secure option you have is to set up [https://inside.mines.edu/~gmurray/HowTo/sshNotes.html an SSH tunnel] to a remote server, and then use a proxy server like [http://www.pps.jussieu.fr/~jch/software/polipo/ Polipo] to forward all your HTTP through that server. Done properly, this will encrypt all your traffic without any further worries. If you do not have SSH access to a remote server, then you can use Tor or similar to encrypt your traffic without exposing it to the Noisebridge network.

The fallback position is to ensure that as many services as possible use HTTPS by default (especially webmail) and at least have browser based solution to protect against [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cross-site_request_forgery CRSF]/[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cross-site_scripting XSS] attacks for everything else. This may happen even if the website itself is solid -- if you're on a compromised internal network, the attacker can inject content into any HTML page that you're reading.

Recommended Firefox Addons:

* Certificate Patrol: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/certificate-patrol/
* Perspectives: https://www.networknotary.org/firefox.html
* HTTPS Everywhere: https://www.eff.org/https-everywhere
* Noscript (even with "all access" it still catches many CSRF/XSS attacks): https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/noscript/

Recommended Chrome Extensions:

* KB SSL Enforcer: https://chrome.google.com/extensions/detail/flcpelgcagfhfoegekianiofphddckof
* NotScripts: https://chrome.google.com/extensions/detail/odjhifogjcknibkahlpidmdajjpkkcfn

Recommended General Security:

* If you use Google, [http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2011/02/advanced-sign-in-security-for-your.html two factor authentication] is vastly more secure than just a password.
* Although coming up with a good password is nice, you're far more secure if you use a password manager like KeyPass or 1Password. The best password is one you don't remember.
* If someone gets their hands on the physical machine, all bets are off. Try to avoid strange USB sticks and CDs, even if they look shiny.
Here is an updated drawing of the Noisebridge space as of 2017-05-24. This is a minor update based on measurements done from 01/17/2013 to 01/20/2013. I have included a PDF for quick plotting, scaled for 36x24 paper and the original CAD file for future updates. I have been careful in my measuring but the walls of the space are not straight. Always verify measurements on site if tolerances for new projects are going to be tight.
Typically when someone wants to do or change something big at Noisebridge, they bring it up at a meeting and it goes through our [[Consensus Process]]. Most of the time many of us just don't want to be troubled with spending a week figuring out if everyone is ok with a small or mundane thing, and so there's Do-ocracy. Do-ocracy tends to work just as long as our only rule is followed, to be excellent to each other.

'''Do-ocracy: If you want something done, do it, but remember to be excellent to each other when doing so.'''

An important part of being excellent is documenting your change. Write a note on Noisebridge's [[ChangeLog]], or leave a note on what you do-ocratically did. Contact numbers are especially important if you want people to contact you about the change. The biggest challenge in a do-acracy is not reversal, but ascertaining (and taking) responsibility.

==Use Cases==
====The Short Version====
# Dick asks around if anyone would feel negative about the bike shed being pink. No one does.
# Dick paints the bike shed pink.

====The Being Excellent To Each Other Version====
# Dick paints the bike shed pink.
# Jane becomes unhappy about the fact that the bike shed she helped build is now pink.
# Jane politely engages Dick in discussion about why he thought this was ok. Dick realized that other people he shares the space with have feelings too.
# Jane and Dick decide to repaint the bike shed blue.

==Notes==
* Do-ocracy works most of the time. When it doesn't, it sort of sucks.
* Write a note (with your name or nym) saying what you did.
* If someone nicely asks you to change something back, be nice back and just change it back.
* If someone's being a dick to you about something you've changed, be nice and just change it back. If you must cry about it only do so after you've restored things.
* When Do-Ocracy means Consent.

[[File:Paws.jpg]]

I remember going into the 5th grade pretty flat chested and starting middle school with a C cup. It's like they literally grew over night. Can you imagine? An 11 year old with a C cup! I used to wear jackets all day (even during the summer) to try to hide my overly developed breasts. By the time I was 16, I was very petite at 5’3 and 120 pounds wearing a 38 ddd, which obviously was not the correct size because my back was so little, and I’m sure at least 6 pounds came from my breasts. I'll say I'm pretty sure I was an H cup then. I got my bras from Lane Bryant which was the only place I could find bras that “fit." Someone as petite as me had to shop in a plus size store just for bras.

Fast forward a couple of years and I'm graduating high school a 32 K. I'm now 22 and 170 pounds. Still a 32 K. I wish I wasn’t as heavy but unfortunately I didn't lose the weight before surgery, so I will lose it afterwards. I've had neck and shoulder pains for years, especially if I was standing or sitting for too long. My back pain would come and go. It would be its worse during my period because the weight of my boobs would become too much. I stopped trying to complain to doctors about back pain after an incident with a nurse. I was maybe 16 when I tried to tell her I was having back pain. She went into the hallway and started talking loudly with her coworker. I can still recall what she said, and her words still stick with me today. She stated that I was a little ol thing with big breasts trying to complain about back problems, and it was probably just gas. *insert huuuuge eye roll here* Not only was that unprofessional, but who was she to tell me my pain was something as simple as gas?
Noisebridge is a space for sharing, creation, collaboration, research, development, mentoring, and of course, learning. Noisebridge is also more than a physical space; it's a community with roots extending around the world.

<blockquote>
For we're excellent to each other here<br />
We rarely ever block<br />
We value tools over pre-emptive rules<br />
And spurn the key and the lock.<br />
&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;     &mdash; Danny O'Brien, 2010-11-09 general meeting notes
</blockquote>

''We make stuff. So can you.''

== The Idea ==

Noisebridge is an educational non-profit corporation, 501(c)3 public charity status.

We provide infrastructure and collaboration opportunities for people interested in programming, hardware hacking, physics, chemistry, mathematics, security, robotics, all kinds of art, and, of course, technology. Through talks, workshops, and [[projects]] we encourage knowledge exchange, learning, and mentoring.

As a space for artistic collaboration and experimentation, we are open to most types of art - with a special emphasis on the crossover of art and technology. From hardware labs to electronics and sound labs, most things that're creative are most definitely welcome.

Many interesting things happen in the space. We've found that sharing is essential to making this work. We strive to begin from a point of respect and trust. We believe it builds a safe community and that this best fosters innovation and creation.
Our motto is "Be excellent to each other." We also have writings on [[community standards]] and an [[anti-harassment policy]] which covers all conduct in the physical space and in our online spaces.

Leadership is taken by individual members for specific projects. We call this "sudo leadership" after the *nix command ''sudo'' which allows a regular user to do one root-level, or superuser, task. In other words, if you want Noisebridge to do something, start doing it.

Here's some paraphrasing from our bylaws:
Through talks, classes, workshops, collaborative projects, and other activities, we want to encourage research, knowledge exchange, learning, and mentoring in a safe, clean space. We provide educational spaces for teaching practical skills and theory of technology, science, and art. We provide work space, storage, and other resources for projects related to art, science, and technology that will benefit the individual members' personal growth in their fields of interest, encouraging the individual members to share their projects and knowledge for the betterment of society through art, science and technology. We create, learn, and teach, individually and as a group, inviting members of the community in the San Francisco Bay area and the world. We develop, support the development of, and provide resources for the development of free and open source software and hardware for the benefit of society. We promote collaboration across disciplines for the benefit of cultural, charitable, and scientific causes.

== Tripartite Pillars ==

===Excellence===
'''Be excellent to each other''' is the guiding principle of Noisebridge. Wikipedia uses [http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Don't_be_a_dick a somewhat similar rule], which they call "''the fundamental rule of all social spaces. Every other policy for getting along is a special case of it.''" Unlike Wikipedia, Noisebridge takes a positive approach, and avoids the practice of officially enumerating the myriad potential special cases; ''' "be excellent" ''' is enough.

===Consensus===
We make official Noisebridge decisions by consensus, which means the willing consent of all of our members. Decisions are typically made at our [[:Category:Meeting_Notes|weekly meetings]] or via our online management venues, and items proposed for consensus are announced at least a week in advance to give everyone time to hear about them. Conceivably, members could block by proxy if they are unable to attend or if they wish to block anonymously.

More information on the [[Consensus Process]].

===Do-ocracy===
Doing excellent stuff at Noisebridge does not require permission or an official consensus decision. If you're uncertain about the excellence of something you want to do, you should ask someone else what they think.

== Testimonials ==

[[Testimonials | Why people love Noisebridge]]

* Smart creative people, welcoming community, friendly to newbies
* Equipment, tools, books, materials, and the space itself
* Its culture of free, open, accessible, DIY awesomeness

== Financing it ==

We self-finance through membership fees ($80 per member/month with $40 "starving hacker" rate), beverage sales, and parties, the way European hacker spaces do it. We also welcome one-time or recurring [[Donate_or_Pay_Dues|donations]] from members and non-members alike. Donations and sponsorships will accompany renovation and equipment purchase. Within the first 24 hours of renting a space, we raised over $10,000 for a cool location and meaningful projects. Within our first month, we've nearly become cash flow positive from membership dues alone. Further discussion is happening on the [[Finances]] wiki page.

== Inspiration ==
Noisebridge is inspired by similar European clubs like [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metalab Metalab] of Vienna, [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C-base CBase] of Berlin, [http://www.mi2.hr/ MAMA] of Zagreb, and [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ASCII_%28squat%29 ASCII] of Amsterdam. It would not be out of the question to consider Noisebridge a possible [http://events.ccc.de/2007/09/27/say-hello-to-bitkanonecccde/ San Francisco Chaostreff]. Noisebridge is a hacker space and community that shares a [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dorkbot Dorkbot]-like ethic, and indeed, many of the members of Noisebridge are long-time Dorkbotters.

I think I get my larger breasts from the paternal side with females in my family, although maternal side is normally sized. My mom wears a B cup and has no idea what it’s like to have huge boobs. When I was in high school and college, I was this itty bitty girl with huge boobs. I wore this cotton “bralette” that didn’t even fit my boobs in just so I’d have the appearance of a smaller chest. I feel like that’s been the pattern I’ve had throughout my adulthood- hiding the size of my chest. When I began taking birth control, I got a birthing body! My hips and breasts kind of had a mind of their own. I’ve put on 20 lbs since high school. There’s no telling how much of that is boob.
I like to be active and what first began bothering me was the painful yeast sores I’d get under my breasts from sweat. I even purchased a TaTa towel so that my breasts could get some air while I was at home. Forget running errands after the gym, no. It’s time to air out the titties! Even if I don’t do anything active, showering and towel drying also yields the pain. That area of my skin literally never gets air because my boobies hang so low. ???????????
Moving on, I remember about four years ago, I went running with my hubby. I ran for about 20 seconds then turned around to go put an additional bra on. The sports bras that I do have now are so uncomfortable because they are like triple reinforced and one feels like it’s lined with steel. I’m not kidding! I can honestly say, I don’t have a comfortable bra. Idk what that feels like! What’s comfort?
Regardless of the aesthetic and general size, it’s painful too. My boob are so heavy. After I’ve worn one of my “big momma” bras, as I refer to them, when I shed the damn thing, I literally have to hold my boobs up because they are so sore. I have constant back and neck pain. I HATE when people ask, “oh, is it your breasts that are making your neck sore?” because how in the heck would I know that? How can I identify what’s causing me pain? I don’t know what my neck would feel like with smaller boobs because I’ve never had them.
Lastly, I saw that someone posted their boobs are defining them. They referred to it as idenTITTY. It makes total sense. I can’t count the number of girls that have talked to me about my breasts. From the VS size lady saying, “oh, you’re so lucky” to my mom’s friends who I’ve know for years messaging me saying “I didn’t notice you had large breasts...” oh and the favorite of them all “can I touch them?”.
No matter who I am with, I can’t escape the one thing about myself that I am probably most self conscious about. I’m also a pretty conservative dresser, so boobs popping out of EVERYTHING is less than ideal. I recently had a military ball that I attended and wore my mom’s dress she’d had for a very long time. It was beautiful. But of course, one thing was out of proportion: my chest. I kept trying to cover it was the wrap thing I had for the 20s themed event, but alas, I just ended up looking wide.
Just a few reasons that come to mind.
Oh and I went to Carlsbad Cavern today where my husband and I spoke to a park ranger. He suggested we go in the summer and crawl through the crawl spaces to explore the cave. Yah,. Won’t be able to do that with my large boobs. They don’t squeeze through anything.
