Excellence
Our One Rule is to Be Excellent to Each Other.

(What does that mean? Everyone is expected to follow the Anti-Harassment Policy, please familiarize yourself with it.) TWO MINUTES MAX

Pyconaut- Excellence is about caring for yourself, others, the space, and the community, it is about calling out when you see something wrong, and being available to help others. Being excellent can be doing things like taking out the trash, fixing a broken machine, cleaning up one of the areas, etc. As long as you follow the one rule, you will be welcome at noisebridge. We also have a Strict anti harassment policy, so if you are making people feel harassed through your actions, you will be asked to leave.

LXPK- we have been trying to add more tools between exelence and asked to leave. we have added a monday communicationsclass

Fundraising Update
We are getting closer to February and the planned February Fundraiser.
We need to start having regular Thursday 6PM fundraising meetings to get things done in advance of showing Noisebridge to the public next month and putting out a new ZIP zine which needs writers, photographers, designers, etc.
*
*
*We need people ready to help with https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/Outreach to promote the upcoming event.

Need to have regular fundraising meetings on Thursdays at 6. First thing to publicize is to publish this in the form of a zine, called ZIP. Plan is to do this as epic version of 5MoF in February. Need ppl who can write, pictures, have talks, add zine content.
what do you want to happen in the future. Dicussion topic every week. Zine thing in the fundraising

pyconaut : need more help, make it virtual and in person, auctions, etc. Good ideas, need to get the ball rolling to make announcements. Hard part is whether we need to do in person thing. I know a large group of people I'd want to invite. If we announce this, we will reach pepole cap quickly.

nthmost - could be outside, do bloc party / flea market thing

lxpk - we could do tours, be mostly outside. Not sure if that is sufficient for making things as safe as possible.

pyconaut - Do we have city permission for this? we'd be ok

lxpk - We can start it earlier, and have it be a daytime event.

nthmost - evening means you can have more blinky lights
Who is interested? pyconaut, TJ,
Big C Consensus Items
Nobody likes 3 hour meetings, only explain if people ask

Consensus Items
Only for talking about Big C consensus items, small c consensus items should be discussed with people at the space at the time of the change/new item.

no concensus items

Discussion
Discussion Item 1 Docent
Lot of things we used to do that we don't now. Docent was done a couple times in the old space. Only bring back what we need. When we first discussed hours, the idea was that people would volunteer on those days. Lack of formal list of people makes the hours mysterious. Don't know what it's based on.

During game jam, where we'll have people coming in on random times, good idea to revive Docent list. When we get critical mass, that'll be ok. Otherwise we'll have a list either temporarily or ongoing. I created the Docent page for this purpose. *Shows wiki page* https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/Docents Under visitors: Docent is advanced version of Greeter. All frequent participants tend to be greeters, because new people show up. Docents are volunteering to do more than just by accident. Docent idea hasn't changed, but schedule is updated.

Each week had different names, don't need to be that detailed. For Game Jam, we'd make a schedule for people. I think if we have a list and ask if they will come in, that might help. What do ppl think?

Sophia: Two things: It is similar to what we initially did. Thing number 1: it was difficult to get people to commit to show up at that time. Annoying to say every Friday is committed to this. Two: Klaus and Ronald, who are here effectively all the time. There aren't many times nobody is there, bc Klaus and Ronald are there. (They both volunteered as such)

Lxpk: That's what I imagined, thank you for the help. Instead of people 100% obligated, have multiple say they might be there. If there are 3-5 people who are likely to be there, at least one of them will. It will suffice most of the time. Especially if they have contact info, they can work it out so one of them can make it. I'll message Mark or Bernice, for example, who is coming to Gamebridge. Multiple people is better than nothing or just one person.

Sophia: Yes

TJ- my exsperience when doing saturdays, was I pinged everyone and cheked who was going to be there. This got critical mass really well so that people know others will be there. I think we should help encourge others to step up, and have people be in the space

pyconaut - before covid We didn't write down who Docents were, because there was regular schedule of people. example was I'd be at Noisebridge Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday 7pm to 3am.

lxpk - Let's make that explicit, until we know certain people will be there. That coordination can happen informally

Sophia - What you mean by Docents. Is it just enough people, or specifically experienced greeters.

lxpk - Being willing to be there and likely to be there on certain days.

lxpk - If yo ulook at hours, slightly different hours bc certain people are likely to be there in the past. System for it. There's logic, but not clear.

Sophia - Hard to ocmmunicate that this isn't a full time business.

lxpk - People counter could help. Could display on wiki whether someone is at the space.

pyconaut - That's been helpful. Real world example is VHS in Vancouver. They've shown their number system, which does exaclty that. How many people, notifies on social media. If that person opens up the space, they have options to decide whether you are there or not. Press button to say you're in the space, space is now open. Don't press button if you don't want people to know. Ie. when I came at 2-3am to get something done. What people are comfortable with being Docents. Once wave settles down, I want to be a NB more, just wouldn't risk it. I have to go to noisebridge to do work, but the risk was too great.

lxpk - day by day wouldn't matter, it's just certain times.

sophia - To make it successful, reach out to people. My best guess is Klaus, Ronald, Ahmed, Will,

TJ - Also Jonah

lxpk - I'll be there first day and last day. Thursday i can also show up. These are people affiliated with Gamebridge. Could also be when Klaus is around. It is asking a lot. Don't want to waste time.

lxpk - Part of announcements where we call for Docents in certain areas.

Discussion Item 3
Met up with friend, another guy, Eric, who made Chicago hackerspace. (Eric Mishoad?)

We talked to Eric, it was interesting, he talked at length how terrible it was, ppl get stabbed. I have no idea what he was talking about, compared to today. I convinced him to come over to New Noisebridge. He was converted just by coming over.

It was fine, he directed me to "Noisebridge Says" at tumblr.com . A lot of it went away in the reboot, 8 years ago. Noisebridge was tarnished among other hackerspaces.

Trashing us for stabbings etc, that's no longer a thing.

Noisebridge has passed the no-stab bar. My thoughts are incoherent. I have no opinions. How do we reach out to people who felt NB name is tarnished, and get them to come. They are cool ppl who have forsaken noisebridge, and

but there may or may not be refrences to threats and guns on twitter?

Naomi is writing a book called at least we ar not noisebridge. It would be good to talk with her as this is a good way to help with getting noisebridge improved.

lxpk - I'm rebooting ZIP, Zine in Progress, initial issue coming out during Fundraiser. Hackerspaces surviving the pandemic. Hackerspaces, where we come from, how we got here, challenges that we had to endure to survive at all. People assumed hackerspaces just died during COVID. I think that topic, and getting people who talked to Naomi to write in the zine as a draft as antidote to the PR problem.

Come out as tweets and blogs until full zIP release. Where is NB at today? Everyone to contribute little bits, until piece of content.

I'll start drafting piece for Noisebridge. Past present, future

Discussion Item 2
someone at the space, whover is been excellent and responsivle for everyone that let in, may have forgotten to dishes, ty in advance for doin dishes and cleaning fridge, looking at clous nd ronald and stuff too, but i guess philanthropists may or may not be responsible

someone was waiiting for kannard recently and doesn't ssem clear info on sight for visitinig both for new guest and volunters in space

sophia - Nothing that happened with Kinnard happened at the space, so I'm reluctant to block

Should we wait until something bad happens to block

pyconaut - disrupted number of meetings, saying we weren't listening to unheard majority, bad mediation between him and another Noisebrige member.

sophia - Should we 86 / ask to leave?

gaardn - Knows he's asked to leave, and is in the space without any efforts to redeem himself, just leave and move on.

Sophia - I can text that he is asked to leave / 86'ed

pyconaut - Not sure if 86'ed

gaardn - asked to leave, but comes back = 86

lxpk - That doesn't seem possible

sophia - He hasn't done anything explicitly bad.

lxpk - I didn't know there were more serious

sophia - Kinnard ended up taking over Crypto Castle, then took rent from people. Crypto Castle was evicted and no longer a thing

pyconaut - I thought we did.

pyconaut - There have been people with problems in the past. If Kinnard fixes himself, I don't think we'd be against un-86'ing him.

nthmost - What is being fixed? This is just being difficult, and actively manipulating and deceiving in the community.

pyconaut - People could change. It would be hard to see if he changed or not. I know there are people who wouldn't feel comfortable with people in the space. Something I'd like having docents. That makes a lot of people feel a lot safer, if there is someone they trust.

there was no report or observation of issues at present time, most don't know the history and what state it was last left in. May be they could start with some dishes as community service is invited and pre-collabs with other to support

nthmost - I don't think there was a written ban.

sophia - If he wasn't asked to leave, then I'll ask him to leave.

pyconaut - Might've been a meeting when there were not a lot of people. No critical mass to do anything at some point.

sopiha - was it possible it happened and he never knew?

pyconaut - Kiara mediated with Kinnard, trying to find notes.

gaardn - I do recall Kinnard was asked to leave, and he was aware

carl - is this 86 worthy?

lxpk - We can check the initial Ask to Leave box, and he's back . It's much more likely he just ignored the Ask to Leave coming back, rather than not communicating with him.

pyconaut - kicked from space, philanthropy revoked, removed from Slack and Meetup.

lxpk - He is back in the space without once talking to a mediator.

nthmost - That's pretty conclusive. I forgot about all the meetup stuff for things that weren't related to noisbridge.

Anon internets: is there anyone here that has directly conferred as much info to them

TJ (booted from Slack and Meetup, so documented banning of him)

Anon internets: So you deleted them from a platform and then used said platform to infom the ban? So other then there account being revoked it does not seem any actual ask to leave "ban" was communicated. Shadow banning is, that's not noisebridge. They were conferred asked not use Meetup for anything.

TJ: I would say kicking from our Slack and Meetup is written evidence of blocking the person. We have made it clear

Sland &| Meetup != NOISEBRIDGE

If someone is asked to leave/86'd then removing slack/meetup access makes sense. Preventing their access and communication does not sound like notice or good faith.

TJ (If you have a block, speak up in the meeting)

Did someone say Consensus?

We (the people at a meeting of almost a dozen, by no objections of anyone therein) have consensed to 86 Kinnard, he is being added to the 86 list now.

Anon internets: Noting that this entire action is based on random internet comment, that can not confirm their presence in the space, plausible proximity and involvement with others who are.
toilet
Hey the toilet i was thinking noisebridge should get is finally back in stock.
WOODBRIDGE B-0940-A Touchless, Dual Flush Elongated One Piece Toilet with Soft Closing Seat,Comfort Height,Water Sense,High-Efficiency,Rectangle Button, White https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B096RY178T/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_XZP10WJ8QVH1480WCETB
cost is $631.14

(On a note about the ratings, this toilet is identical to the t-0019 which is really highly rated (both on and off of amazon, and by quite a few toilet reviewing groups), but gas the touchless flush addon system.)I actually recently got a T-0019 at home, and it is really nice to have a good dual flush toilet.
We have to buy the bidet seat seperate, but i think having the dual flush and the touchless will be beneficial. I will check on the bidet add ons

dicussion 4 =
Cloud - Starting projects are frustrating, but they can't get funding. Personal credit card is tricky financial position. We don't really have a Treasurer, since he's hard to contact.
Cloud - I'm thinking who would be a good fit, someone who knows a lot of people, is there a way to simplify the process, to get these going.

pyconaut - a big part of this is we have money. Last time we had any discussion about how funding works was month before pandemic, when we got the money we now have. Usually been broke most of the time.

nthmost - Had a 2-3 month runway. Having money is different. What's our current runway?

sophia - Around 7 years, to be generous

pyconaut - Rent is $9k to $12k at end of 10 years, 10% per month

lxpk - Currently have accurate number of 11-12k/month . What is our actual rent?

pyconaut - Currently >$9k or so. It will be soon, since we will end our first year soon. We might be more like 3 years, but that's a relatively long way. But with renovation projects, that will whittle down quickly

lxpk - Back to fundraising topic: (see Fundraising update)

We need to have the meetings for sure going forward

tours of the space while event is outside

can we ask the city about it

nthmost - anniversary for the ENIAC on Fed 15!!! (76 years)

pyconaut - We could invite some of people who've donated over past coupel years. Reach back out to handshake or ... Kraken. Talk about party, say thanks, ask for more donations.

nthmost - Just ask the usual suspects in the space. Last time we asked for donation, someone gave us manuscript.

pyconaut - internet archive, no starch press, EFF, freedom of the press, aaron schwartz day.

nthmost - Center of Venn diagram you just described.

pyconaut - Single Circle diagram more like lol. Also, the different hackerspaces / maker media.

lxpk - Another thing I wanted to do was to do our own maker fair, for all bay area. Week of events. It's a maintime event. Could turn BACH into BACH maker faire in 2022

nthmost - Would it be terrible to have event in one spot?

lxpk - We could host it all in oone spot. just how map event works. One main place for ceremony, Omni is one of the bigger buildings. They also need love

nhtmost - I have ideas about this maker faire, how this will work.

lxpk - Hackerspaces surviving the pandemic apocalypse.

nthmost - Just talked to Faset in Belfast. Caused brain drain, struggled with lower connectivity they feel in day to day operations.

lxpk- universal issue, gathering of stories in book ties into this. I'd make zip a way for you nthomst to write draft content in the book. We edit this wiki page quarterly. Every 5mof talk would be transcribed as part of it for consistent content.

nthmost - I want to write my own book. But also wanted to do a quarterly / half year journal, demonstarate what I think is possible

lxpk - ZIP content could have the content of your book. We are talking about the COVID normative environemnt. We still need to rebuild, even though covid won't go away

pyconaut - fundraiser would be great for all different hackerspaces. let people know that they're starting back up. I forget if hackerspaces.net has an @all hackerspaces thing. They really should, that would be so cool. Prone to spamming.

lxpk - they've had a conference call every month. One of which is BACH. Initially, reach out to BACH, but wider movement is also interested, reach out to them too.

pyconaut - VHS would love to say hi, maybe east coast hackerspaces. Could check with middle east hackerspaces. Love to come by , same iwth asia hackerspaces

lxpk - could get update from Bilal about the mideast spaces.

pyconaut - haven't heard from Africa, etc.

nthmost - Would like to hear outside of WEIRD (white educated, industrialized...)

pyconaut - Could bring awareness of hackerspace culture.

*Meeting adjourned*

21:21

Do-ocratic Task Board
Participation also means doing stuff to contribute to the space. Propose new tasks or pick some tasks from Github, from what needs to be done around you, or whatever, and see if someone will sign up to work on that task. Anyone can sign up and it's a great way to show you are contributing!

End of Meeting
Note taker posts the notes
* Clean and tidy the meeting notes including removing all these really verbose instructions.
* Fill out the short summary at the top listing just announcements, consensus items, discussion topics, and names of new members and philanthropists.
* Copy paste the notes to the next meeting page. (They will become Last meeting at midnight.)
* Email the meeting summary to Noisebridge Discuss and Noisebridge Announce lists.
* CC on the email treasurer@noisebridge.net and secretary@noisebridge.net if there are new members and philanthropists.
* Edit the Current Consensus Items if anything is proposed for consensus next week.
* Edit the Consensus Items History if anything was reached consensus or failed to reach consensus this week.

Fun things to do after
* Reprise of the Hackernationale. [This is anarchy - we do what the wiki says!]
* PGP Key Signing could happen now (if it doesn't happen before any given Meeting). Ask others around the space or check the list to see who wants in on the action.

Example tasks:
* Collect all the trash in the space into the large bins on Sunday night!
* Document how one of the 3D printers works on the wiki, print out QR code linking to it & tape it to that printer!
* Find us a plumber to fix the toilet and hang out with them in the space while they fix it (Perhaps organizing an entire toilet replacement workshop!)

The temporary fixes held up to a few days of weather, and today provided for a break in the weather for further maintenance.

The ends of the skylight frame were screwed in to the roof using self-tapping zinc coated screws. This was for the sewing room skylight that had come loose twice and was temporarily secured with bungees.

One end of the skylight was secured with screws the same as the sewing room skylight. The other end of the frame left a larger gap, and a interim wood spacer was used along with longer screws to secure the other end. Some spray paint was used to add some level of weather resistance to the wood.
The skylight that had blown off in the electronics room was still in place, however the one that came loose in the sewing room was found ajar, and rain was falling directly in to the room creating a small puddle. This was mopped up and the skylight was put back in place and additionally temporarily secured with bungee cords and weights until a break in the storm would allow day light access and further repair.
